Unsigned Spotlight: The Edge of Reason

Musically, driving rhythms meet with very catchy melodies with partial punky and rocky elements. The dynamic combination of brutal shouts and growls with the extraordinary clean voice of lead vocalist Ro Seven lends The Edge of Reason unmistakable character.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Edge of Reason? How long has the band been around?

We started 2012 with different members. After our first EP "How can I drop this Mask" and two years playing shows the band broke because of musical differences. The Edge Of Reason then had a two year break. We started working on new stuff in 2016 and playing shows in 2017.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We never changed the name."The Edge Of Reason" is a good symbol for the mental illness issues we care a lot about and the more emotional view to the world. It means almost on the point of loosing rationality. And this is how we feel all the time.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Ro Seven and Billy Oldboy. Since singer Ro Seven has to battle his inner demons every single day, it is especially important to them to reach out to those who are struggling with their lives. Our lyrics deal mostly with mental barriers, the fight with reality and the insatiable desire to change these. Of course we will write lyrics about other topics too, but we do not think that our biggest concern to increase help and awareness for mental issues.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Well, we love music and we love a lot of artists. But them most important at the moment are Falling in Reverse, Escape The Fate, Dead Girls Academy, The Word Alive, but also Twenty One Pilots!

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

I, Ro, singer, grew up with my parents listeneing Metallica, Iron Maiden, Guns'N Roses and all the great ones. But for me, Metallica and especially Kirk Hammett inspired me to learn to play guitar (with a KH2). Later, Bring me the Horizon inspired me to start singing and screaming.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Just all the warm up excercises for vocals and the instruments. Nothing special.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

For us it is the growning fan base and besides that our song "River" reached #40 and "Come True" hit #37 in the iTunes rock charts. And headlining Woodstock Ukraine was a really special and emotional live experience!

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Mainly the same as we love these days. Falling in Reverse, Escape The Fate, Dead Girls Academy, but also and especially with Awake At Last! These guys are awesome.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just one thing. We love what we do and it is especially important to us to reach out to those who are struggling with their lives. We take great care of our fans and answer almost every personal message on social media. Fans = Family.
