For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Doped Up Dollies? How long has the band been around?

We all are the back-up singers for Big D and the Kids Table which has been around for close to 20 years. The Doped Up Dollies were created in 2008 by frontman David McWane.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We've always been The Doped Up Dollies. There's a Big D and the Kids Table lyric from the song Noise Complaint "... them Doped Up Dollies gigglin'"

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We like to think the songs write themselves.... Haha We have an extremely talented group of musicians whom all take important roles with developing our music but the real mastermind of this project is David McWane. He had a vision from the start that has lead us to The New Way Out.
The whole approach to this project was to make a positive record. We're really inspired by the uppity rhythms of the Jackson 5 and Shirley Ellis. The world out there is negative enough and we really wanted to put out songs to reflect inner strength. Our first single "Make Your Own Sunshine" talks of creating your own happiness in the muck of life. We are not chained to any form or theme, we hope a lot of our topics change and progress as we do as musicians. Because we are three tough cookies, we also focus on girl power and the message of women strength.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We've always kept ourselves on a healthy diet of the Trojan Records and Dynamite box sets. We all have different personal tastes in music but we come together with the influence of Amy Winehouse, Shirley Ellis, Chuck Berry and Little Richard, etc. I could name them all but it would take too long.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Well touring with Big D over the years really opened the idea that "hey, I think we could do this!" The entity of The Doped Up Dollies really just solidified into who we are today. We are ready to take those steps forward from the background and show everyone what we've got.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Haven't had our first show yet but I am sure we will have things we will do to prepare... rituals, sacrifices, meditation, a request for 36 green m&m's to eat with three shots of tequila before hitting the stage...

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Our KickStarter for The New Way Out for sure. We wanted to raise $7k to finish up recording our full length. What we got was completely unexpected and unbelievable. In just 30 days we raised $15,337. The outpouring of support was by far the most amazing thing we have experienced in our lives.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Let's see... Amy Winehouse of course. Toots and the Maytals, Fishbone, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, No Doubt circa 1995, that would be outrageous...We want to tour with any band that pulsates positivity and good time vibes!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Get excited! Page New Way Out drops at the end of summer. Our record release show with Big D and the Kids Table will be Halloween Night at The Brighton Music Hall in Allston, MA........... and it will be HUGE!
