Unsigned Spotlight: The Components
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Ronnie Sena - Lead Vocals, Guitar
Zoe Ekonomidis - Drums, Backing Vocals
For starters, tell us about yourself! What bands were you guys a part of prior to The Components (if any)? How long has the band been around?
Zoe: We played together in a band called Asphalt Grey for 5 years. The Components have been around for a little over a year.
What’s the origin of the bands name?
Ronnie: The Components actually started out as solo project while I was playing in Asphalt Grey. I didn't want to use my name and I liked the irony of calling the band the Components.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Ronnie: Sometimes I'll come to Zoe with a song partially written and we'll finish it up together. Other times we'll jam on something then I'll take it home and flesh it out a bit.
Zoe: The songs are basically Ronnie's journal entries. They talk about struggling with mental health and battling your inner demons. I can relate to what he's writing about and that's what allows us to connect and stay close.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Zoe: 100% Senses Fail, The Distillers, Hole, and I watch a lot of sólo drum artists of all genres.
Ronnie: Senses Fail's album Renacer is an infinite source of inspiration for me. Frank Iero is great, too, that guy is my hero.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Zoe: In Lenny Kravitz's Fly Away video Cindy Blackman Santana inspired me to be a performing musician however I've always been into drumming since I was a child.
Ronnie: I was huge Linkin Park fan growing up and their Live In Texas DVD brought a whole new element to music that made me want to want play.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, rituals, etc …
Ronnie & Zoe: Jack and coke.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Ronnie: I would have to say winning the JC Studios Battle of the Bands back in Fall 2017. We've gained so many opportunities and met so many awesome people because of that.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Zoe: Senses Fail forever and always.
Ronnie: Yeah there's definitely a long list. But the Foo Fighter seem like cool dudes, Dave Grohl seems like he has stories for days.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Ronnie: We're really proud of the album we just released entitled "continuum.". Our main goal is write music that people can connect with so we're really excited to get as many people to listen to it as we can. It's available on all major digital retailers, and we also have physical copies available at shows.
