Unsigned Spotlight: The Beast of Nod

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Paul - Vocals

Görebläster – Guitars and programming

Brendan – Bass

Nate - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to (insert band/artist name here)? How long has the band been around?

Nate was in the death metal band Scourge. Brendan has been in a few different local metal bands from the RI and CT areas. Paul has been in a few original projects and cover bands. Görebläster was in a band when he was younger but is also currently doing his own solo instrumental project. He is in the band Episodes as well.

A number of years ago, Paul started making the first demos with previous member Chris. Later, Görebläster joined up after meeting Ryan, our previous bass player. The two began transforming the band into what it is today. Nate came in and did drums on our first EP and became a permanent member shortly after. We knew Brendan through friends and he joined us right before our second EP. We’ve been actively gigging for about three years now.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The bands name has always been the same and it was chosen because we were setting out to create heavy music with some groove, hence The Beast of Nod because our music makes you nod your head.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Görebläster does the musical composition. Prior to this we all discuss what the songs are going to be about and how they will progress. Once the initial composition is done, Nate and Brendan will work with Görebläster to hash out the rhythms of the tune and Paul will write the lyrics. The process is quite democratic.

Our songs explore the characters and events of the sci-fi universe we’ve created called “The Land of Nod.” We have a comic book to accompany the music. Backstories and other information can be found at our website here.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We draw inspiration from artists such as Cannibal Corpse, Gojira, Allegaeon, Fallujah, Scale the Summit, Plini, Sarah Longfield, Rings of Saturn and Berried Alive. We like all sorts of different music, including but not limited to synthwave, classic rock, and black metal.

Nate - Van Halen

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

We all warm up and stretch prior to playing. We usually spend the last fifteen minutes or so together before we play. We could be going over parts, making sure our gear is in order, or just hanging out enjoying which ever band happens to be playing.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Simply having a good live set and watching people really get into it.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

There are too many to list but perhaps The Atheist, Vektor, Dethklok, Rings of Saturn, Animals as Leaders, and Berried Alive, mostly because they would match our music or theme in some way.
