For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to The Band Gooch? How long has the band been around?

This is our first band. We have been around officially since 2018, unofficially since 2015. Our very first song was a song I (Jared) wrote for my wife and performed it for her on our wedding day with my brother Jordan and one of our good friends. Since then we have grown, and want to share our music with the world.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name is us, Gooch is our last name. Simply put we could not think of any other name.. We have tried to think of lots of other names but we could never come up with anything we like enough. So we just decided F*** it we are The Band Gooch.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Jared is the principal songwriter. He is responsible for the foundation, melodies and lyrics, lots of the lead guitar and a lot of bass parts for most songs. Jordan is the other song writer.  Jordan has a good ear for lead guitar parts, and very good bass lines. The two of them work very cohesively on all songs, and have a great balance on what each song needs to capture its potential. If Jared writes something Jordan can come and make it better, and vise versa. Together they have the same idea and vision, yet are different enough to keep it interesting.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We derive inspiration from so many places. The inspiration ranges from bands like Green Day and Brad Paisley, all the way to Enya and Lord Huron.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

For me (Jared) there have been a few things. As far as bands go, Green Day is the first that comes to mind. We became fans of them from a very early age. We loved the music, and started watching live videos and became completely inspired. The first live concert I saw was Brad Paisley back in 2012, it was amazing.. The other notable concert after that was when both Jordan and I drove to see Green Day live at the Hollywood Palladium in October 2016, that was life changing for us.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

Prep starts when we wake up! Everything during the day is to get ready to perform, a few hours before the show we all practice the set to warm up. After a practice we will go to an acoustic practice, so Tim (live bassist) and I can warm up our vocals and do whatever exercises that way we need to. Other than that it’s just mentally preparing, getting in the right mind to do what need to do.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Hard to put one single moment on it because we are always growing so there are so many things. Creating a new song you love is at the core of it all, then watching it come to life and be able to share is is like ecstasy... Overall that is the funnest part is growing together. But if I had to put a single moment on it I would say one of our shows in Provo, UT. in the summer of 2018, or opening for the spazmatics in spring of this year were probably two very fun moments for us. We had great crowds, they were super engaged and we all had so much fun together.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

First and foremost Green Day because they have been such a big part of our lives growing up and have been so influential on who we are as people and musicians.

Second would be Greta Van Fleet. They are a very young new band like us and it would be awesome to be with a younger band sharing the stage together. They have some great music, and I think together we would do a kick-ass show.

Third would be Metallica. It would be really cool to tour with a band that big that’s been around for so long and has so much experience. I mean they are Metallica, who wouldn't want to tour with them.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We’d like to extend an invitation to all the corners of the world, to everyone out there to join our movement. We welcome anyone and everyone to our family. We are a group of people striving to live our best lives, our happiest lives, and to be free. Who cares what your told you should do, who cares what other people do, or think at all. That’s what rock n roll is to us, a community of liberty, a community of people just trying to be their best selves whatever that may be, to be great. Whether it’s getting OUT of your job, or getting INTO your corporate job I don’t know. Who cares what everyone else thinks is best, you do you.
