Unsigned Spotlight: STFLR

Forming in 2019, STFLR started as a hobby between high school friends that quickly turned into something more. Members of the band had been playing in various bands for over a decade, but STFLR felt special.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Nick Lopardo - Vocals.

Yianni Hansen- Guitar

Anthony Guiffrida- Guitar.

Michael Moran - Bass.

Angelo Rodrigues - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to STFLR? How long has the band been around?

Yianni, Anthony, Mike and myself (Nick) have been playing in various bands together on and off since 2007. Angelo came into the fold when STFLR started in 2019.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

So the name is a reference to the character in the American Pie movies Steve Stifler. The name kind of started as a joke that just stuck. We don’t use vowels to avoid a potential lawsuit haha.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Everyone in the band adds their own ideas or flair to a song but the majority of the writing is done by Yianni, Ant and Nick. We write songs about our shared experiences navigating adulthood, parenting, anxiety, depression etc.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Speaking for myself (Nick) I have been on a huge Menzingers kick the past 2 months so that’s really been coming through in my writing. I’ve also rediscovered The Wonder Years and fell in love with that band all over again. Gaslight Anthem and Spanish Love Songs are also on heavy Spotify rotation.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band? blink-182.

I saw the What’s My Age Again on TRL when I was in 6th grade and decider right then and there that I want to be a musician.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Being the singer I allow myself a 20 minute vocal warm up with some tea. I also do breathing exercises to help control my voice when I’m on stage.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Our debut Ep A Collection of Bad Ideas and the following EP release show will always hold a special place in our hearts. That EP was written in the middle of the pandemic and dealt with heavy topics and we are super proud of that EP.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

To tour with blink-182 would be a very cool full circle moment for me personally. That band has had such a profound impact on my life and I would love to play music with them one day and express my gratitude.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

thanks to anyone who listens to our band and likes what we do!
