Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Silhouette Rising is Cam Liberty (Vocals/Guitar), James DiNanno (Drums), and Rob DiNanno (Keyboard/Vocals). 

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Silhouette Rising? How long has the band been around?

SR has been an existing band since 2004, I believe, with James being the only lasting original member. Back when the band was just starting out, it was actually one of the driving inspirations for myself, being James's younger brother, to begin a musical endeavor of my own in fifth grade.

After I joined in, and saw several lineups turn over with the band, we crossed paths with Cam. He had been working on some solo material at the time and from there we just clicked with this unprecedented musical fluency. James and I had finally found our musical soulmate and third brother in Cam. 

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name has always been Silhouette Rising, although more recently we've made the decision to push 'SR'. Turns out 'Silhouette' is tough to spell at first try. The name originated when James was heavily influenced by Thrice, and their song 'Silhouette' stood out. Just a random piecing together of words, really. 

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We all have a heavy hand in the writing process. It changes a little with every song, and naturally, so do the topics. Focusing on the current lineup of Cam, James, and myself, I would say our songs  have kept a consistent KIND of tone in topic, but aren't necessarily confined to one subject. For whatever reason, our best material comes with this baggage of vulnerability. I think that's also what makes our songs potentially relatable to most people. We each have our say in sharing emotions in the music, and often times it comes from a mutual place of desperation with a clear vantage point towards hopefulness. There's never been a clear explanation for that, but it seems to work.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Too many to list, so we'll stick to the key ones: Ballyhoo!, The War On Drugs, Twenty One Pilots, Slightly Stoopid, and The Fray. 

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Knowing James and Cam as well as I do, I would guess that for James it would be either Fall Out Boy, Alien Ant Farm, or Saves the Day; though his taste in music has evolved a lot over the years. For Cam, I think Dispatch has always been the single most important musical influence, and after taking a trip to Red Rocks to see them, I think that really helped define his hunger to be a musician. For me, it was undeniably The Fray. I just fell in love with those guys from the very start. I used to watch vh1 'You Outta Know' every morning before school, and one morning I had a VHS tape in, and as soon as I heard the first two drum clicks of 'Over My Head', I started recording. I had this inexplicable intuition that whatever was about to play on my tv was going to be very important. I still have that tape. 

What do you do to prepare for a show?

Cocaine and hookers seem to do the trick

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Headlining Webster Hall, NYC in 2013. Filled the place to the brim, and Cam brought such a forceful energy to that show. There's some footage of it on our YouTube channel. 

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Probably only Smashmouth. I don't think we could ask for anything more than that really. And if we get our hands on any of that notorious Smashmouth flying toast, all the better. 

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The only other thing I will add is this: After a serious car accident in 2014, Cam has been through the pits of hell in his recovery process, and his story plays out in our music in a way that is eerily foreshadowing. It has the same aura that Dark Side of the Moon holds against Wizard of Oz, and it's really special. Knowing this, we just hope others can relate situations from their own lives and find a friend in our music.
