For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Shark Infested Daughters? How long has the band been around?
Shark Infested Daughters was conceptualized in 2012, consisting of members from local bands such as - Jessica Rabbit - The Collective - Black Earth - The Rusty Chords - From the Wolves
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We conceptualized multiple choices for names and chose one that seemed the most fitting. Shark Infested Daughters lets us get away with murder in our music, while not being a complete joke. People either love it or hate it. Previous choices in the infantile stages were “Eyes of Athena / Moria” but we have always operated under SID
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We collectively write the instruments, with Dan Mccormick taking the lead. Lyrics are crafted by both Chris and Erika, and touch on subjects such as love, loss, depression, suicide and drug addiction. The topics we chose are based on life experience and what we all faced growing up. We choose the darker subjects to better impact those who might be going through the same thing, and showing they are not alone, and there is always hope.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Breakdown of Sanity
Feed her to the Sharks
I Killed the Prom Queen
Killswitch Engage
Make them Suffer
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
The band formed with the intention of creating music with substance and bringing back the excitement of the first wave of American Heavy Metal. With the scene being so dominated by breakdowns and party metal in early 2010’s, we strove to create heavy melodic music with a message. Like the bands we grew up listening to.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
Stage stretches are important, vocal and mobility warmups, and preparing the instruments and gear so everything is in working order. The occasional pushup pit for the opening bands seem to help keep us limber.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Dropping our debut LP “These Tides, Our Tombs” and the Tour cycle that followed. Supporting Trivium, Supporting All that Remains, and Supporting the Alberta Leg of the Make them Suffer/Enterprise Earth/Spite tour.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Crystal Lake/Crossfaith/Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Japan goes off
Linkin Park - Huge Influence growing up
Underoath - Bands that Synth together, stay together
Killswitch Engage - Pinch harmonic battles
Emmure - Bring the hate mosh
Is there anything else you would like to add?
