Unsigned Spotlight: Scars Remain
Scars Remain was founded as a passion project by long time members of the Charlotte music scene. After taking some time off Kyle, Andy, Jason & Travis decided that giving up on the dream wasn’t an option. After a solid first year of opening up for national acts Scars Remain has focused their attention on reaching the masses.
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Jason Evans- Drums Andy Allen- Bass
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Scars Remain? How long has the band been around?
J and I (Travis) were in Shadow of Myself years ago, while Kyle and Andy had been in multiple bands together, most recently Triton. We've all been together now a little over 2 years.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Well, given that we were all remnants of previous bands, we felt like we were the scars left behind from those other projects. We all wanted to keep pursuing the dream, and were going to remain steadfast in doing so. Hence Scars Remain.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We all have input with the writing process, and now working with Jordan and Sam at Pangea Productions, the songs just continue to evolve. Kyle and I really get the bones of the song together and then take it to the guys to really dig in. Our main themes? I would have to say life, lol...all of our lyrics come from a real place. Shit we've been through, or are going through. We want to make relatable music, so that maybe someone can hear a song and know that it's ok to feel the way they do. I'm sure our topics will change, but the key to me is to stay real.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
That's a tough one. We all come from such different musical backgrounds. Kyle would say Alice in Chains, Andy would say Soundgarden, Jason listens to damn near everything, while I LOVE pop/punk stuff... especially ADTR and Beartooth. I love that it's this way though, because it allows us to really be diverse and show a lot of range.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
I wouldn't say there was 1 band, but more the movement that happened in the early 90s. We're all a bit older, so we really all got to see the grunge movement. For me, as a little kid watching Pearl Jam and Nirvana....it really made me want to do it one day. I got a later start playing an instrument than I'd have liked, but I started singing right then.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect ...
A few beers always helps get the juices flowing , but really going through vocal warmups, and really stretching out does help a lot. As I mentioned, were a bit older than other bands, so we don't wanna throw a hip out
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Again that's a tough one. We've been blessed in our 2 years to be able to do some really cool shows and stuff, but I'd have to say this music video we just released was one of the coolest things we've gotten to do. We've all gotten to play some good shows over the years, but this was a first for all of us. The process was a blast, we got the message across we were shooting for, and it turned out awesome.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
I personally wouldn't care who it was. Tours are all about connecting with people, so whether it be Breaking Benjamin or Metallica....or someone we've never heard of, we'd do everything the same way. The people you meet and the experience is what makes it all worthwhile.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Stay on the lookout this year. We've been added to 3 festivals, have a killer set of songs to be released over the next few months, and a whole lot more content planned.
