Sam Wilmot “Savings”

For starters, what bands were you a part of prior to Savings?

Oddly enough this is my first project!

What’s the origin of that name?

I go by the stage name “Savings” almost in an ironic way. I love helping people out and being there for my friends, almost “saving” them at times if you will. But the last person I try to do this for is myself. So, I go by the stage name “Savings” almost as a reminder to take care of myself.

What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

In the beginning the main theme behind the songs tended to lean towards heartbreak and the emotions that circled around that. Now, I’ve started to shift more towards my own mental state and hyper fixating on the current state of life that I’m going through, whether it be reminiscing on lost time or my own struggles with the loss of a family member. I want to be open and vulnerable about the more personal sides of my life that don’t see the light of the internet on most days.

What artists are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Lately it's been a lot of Hot Mulligan, Movements and The Story So Far. But on the smaller side of bands I absolutely love “Slow Joy” and “Games We Play” at the moment and they've both been playing the role of inspiration during the creative process.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to get into music?

I fell in love with music early on in life. While growing up my dad would constantly be playing the Chili peppers and jimmy eat world around me at all times and I like to say that's what really inspired me to start creating at a young age.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

I don’t have any crazy pre-show rituals or anything aside from the normal vocal warmups and drinking copious amounts of Room temp water.

What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

I would have to say the biggest highlight of my career so far would be playing a show on Broadsides “into the raging sea” tour earlier this year. Getting to meet and play a show with the whole tour package was unreal.

If you could tour with any musical act, past or present, who would they be and why?

Present day musical act I would definitely choose Hot Mulligan or The Story So far, just because they influence us so much in terms of writing, stage presence, etc. But I think overall if I could bring back any band to tour with, it’d be modern baseball.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you so much for having me, and I hope you love the music half as much as I enjoy creating it.
