Unsigned Spotlight: Resin

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Niko Antonucci - singer, producer, songwriter, keyboard player

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Resin? How long has the band been around?
I started Resin in spring 2016 but I have been producing solo since 2013. Prior to that I’ve had a project called Libido where I was writing acoustic grunge songs. I recorded a couple of albums, in Prague and Hannover.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Growing up camping, I’ve always had a strong connection to the forest, trees, nature. I knew I was looking for something that would bring up that theme. One day I went hiking with my friend and she suggested Resin. I loved it, also because in Czech, we use the same word for resin as well as for bad luck.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
It’s just me, so I’m in charge of everything. I have been writing about one of my particular obsessions and how it spiritually and mentally affects me for years. I rarely make up stories. My songs reflect my current mental state and how I perceive the reality, how it annoys me or disappoints me. I am not trying to give out anything obvious and even though my lyrics are personal, there is a hidden message, a theme that, I hope, people will get over time.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
I’ve been listening to a lot of classical music lately as well as hard minimal techno, producers like Boris Brejcha. When I’m home alone I listen to Native American Flute and other ambient artists. I have a couple of favorite playlists on Spotify that I have been listening to a lot lately, for example Cinematic Ambient or Big Little Lies soundtrack.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Definitely Nirvana

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
I rehearse two weeks prior to the show. The day of the show? Two or so drinks and I’m ready to go

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Everything started happening recently. I got some lovely reviews. It feels so great so finally have the validation.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Again, Nirvana and perhaps The Beatles. Actually any of the artists who were around in ’67 or ’91. I am not interested in any of current trendy DJ lifestyle. Despite the fact that I make electronic music, I grew up on rock and punk and that’s what I’m attracted to. If electronica, I would go with Grimes or Nina Kravitz.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Yes, Thank you.
