Unsigned Spotlight: RadioDrone
RadioDrone is part schizoid Five Finger Death Punch on the heavy edge, part Foo Fighters rock with the commercial aspects and part hard grooves. RadioDrone seamlessly barrels from churning head banging riffs to skyscraping chorus’ and back again with smooth radio made transitions and underground power. They are equally able to dial down their bluster into deft moments of crystalline beauty when the mood takes them there.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to (insert band/artist name here)?
Slam, Rooster, Hit and run
How long has the band been around?
About a year
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The origin of the band name is a mash up of radio, which is fast becoming a word of the past and drone, which is a very prevalent word of the future. If you bring them together it suggests the modern wave of information. We called ourselves Beach City Cowboys for a short time before adopting this new name RadioDrone.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Randy comes up with the initial concepts then Steve and Danny work on the format along with Randy and I, Ethan primarily write the lyrics. I'm not a fan of bullshit lyrics and empty conceptual songs; to me a good song not only encompasses a great melody and cord progression but also has something to say. If you listen to our music it's quite obvious we have a lot to say and are diligent about incorporating this into the lyrical foundation of every song. All the songs on our album have something to say about our current reality from love to chemtrails, Unity to political unrest and so on. The album is a theme based album with 21 tracks this should let you know that we do have something to say and don't hide behind anything we aspire to only speak the truth.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We have a broad input it's really all about good music that inspires us from Aerosmith to slipknot
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Personally I wanted to be in a band and perform since I was about eight years old, first concert I saw I was scorpions and I was fortunate enough to be front row with my hands on the stage! That definitely locked in my drive and aspirations to follow that dream.
What do you do to prepare for a show?
I do a vocal warm-up a bit of guitar noodling and a really good stretch, lots of push-ups and then I meditate. Keep in mind I've been studying martial arts my entire life and own a school martial arts school in Costa Mesa.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
We won the KLOS Heidi and Frank “Stay or Go” contest and played at the Grove in Anaheim opening for Lit to a sold out house.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
It would've have been awesome to play with Rage Against The Machine back in the day because we grew up together, We would love to go on tour with Korn or Slipknot, as you can see these bands I have mentioned also have something to say along with putting on a great show while kicking ass onstage! And that is what we are all about.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Yes I would like to add to the listeners to buy a fucking CD and stop downloading shitty compressed audio files! It's time to embrace the artists that are creating the stuff people are enjoying and getting off on. Support these people so they can continue to produce music for you. By placating to, and patronizing the internet-based music companies you are not doing us a favor it is like ass fucking the artist without the decency of a reach around. If you like and listen to an artist then help support what they bring to you. Buy their physical albums and their merchandise or whatever else they have to offer, not to mention going to their live shows! Other wise there will be no artists or shows to go to in the future…
