Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

We are Brian Corn of Modesto CA, Doug “Smitty” Smith of Toledo OH, and John “Snap Dragon” Cordes of Monroe CT. We all currently reside in San Diego County.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to QUOR?  How long has the band been around?

Doug and I were previously in a project called Silverside and Snap was in project called Fates Demise. In late 2011 Doug and I were sitting at a large arena concert together after Silverside had disbanded. We took a moment away from the show to high five and cheers to the fact that we would play music together as long the universe would allow. That fateful understanding and respect created the most productive project I have had the honor of being a part of. -Corn

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The project was originally called "We Are Going To Be Awesome" and by it's acronym "WAGTBA". We didn’t really give a shit about the “names” of “bands”. While driving down the PCH on a foggy night Brian saw a giant liquor store sign glowing in the distance. The "L and I" where out and the sign read "QUOR". He had to stop and photograph the sign. The band name was changed to "QUOR" as all the members wanted a simple unique name. The name "QUOR" poked at the current state of rock labeling everything into "core" genre's (hardcore, mathcore, metalcore, etc etc.) and also avoided the trends in band naming that make every band sound the same. In honor of the original band name the first EP was titled "We Are Going To Be Awesome"

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

The band is an open forum for our ideas and interpretations. It would not be a QUOR song until each head of the “Three Headed Dragon” had burned his fire into each song. The lyrics and compositions are often bonded at birth so to speak. Personally my heads always got little themes wanting to find a musical home and it seems just as the right riff is born the words raise their hands and blend into the riffs. Because we are a three piece the words and composition must flow with some relation that my head can accept. The fingers must cooperate with the mouth.  The themes of the songs generally draw from abstract concepts that become a defined idea or subject. The Human Paradigm record is for sure the most personally defined subject matter we’ve done. We’ve seen the best and worst of experiences in our travels and those experiences have bled into the record quite literally at times.

The album began with the concept of its name sake track, Human Paradigm. The song Human Paradigm contemplates the idea that we are all just irrelevant blips in the universe. We all strive to be something more, and yet most of us will fade into oblivion. Are we cut from the same program or can we change our fate and in effect change the path of our human kind, our human evolution?

Need another example, When the Gods Speak raises the question that if we are truly so judged by the universe for our behavior and instincts that universal conscious would likely simply destroy us. And maybe it will, but it seems our judgments are of our own device and most of us have no right to judge.  -Corn

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Shit. That’s always an interesting question because I think inspiration is something that builds with time if we let it. Inspiration is born of respect and there are a too many artists we all respect from the unknown to the most known. The band has super broad musical tastes. Snap for example has been really into Scandinavian folk/choirs like Gjallarhorn. Smitty’s been known to enjoy some Pink Floyd. And, I’ve found myself encompassed by Michael Jackson’s last record, there was something surreal about listening to such a talents last completed work. -Corn

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

We formed the band at a Mayhem Festival. It is quite possible the inspiration was Coors Light.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

We tell jokes while Snap Dragon tries to meditate.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

The creation of every song and every mile we’ve traveled to share them with good people. So grateful for the growing support.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Willie Nelson.

I need to be more consistent with exercising and going to the gym. How about you?
