Unsigned Spotlight: Pacific

Hailing from Manchester, UK, Pacific has washed up on shore and is now ready to tell the tale of their travels. They’ve worked hard to evolve their sound and the band are now ready to take the world by storm. They blend alternative, indie, and pop, and have also been interestingly described as a perfect combination of Elton John and Kasabian. With their piano prominence growing edgier and more rock-centric, Pacific’s energy continues to rise to the next level.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Anthony – Lead singer/pianist/songwriter

Dan – Synths/bassist/songwriter

Dave – Guitarist

Drew – Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Pacific? How long has the band been around?

Dan: Ant and I formed the band when we were young teenagers back in 2012, Dave and Drew joined not long afterwards. We went through a few different members during our school years, however, we’ve played together in this lineup for 5 years now and have played many gigs across the UK.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Dan: The suggestion actually came from one of the first promoters that ever booked us. He was in a band when he was younger and the label asked if they could change their band name to Pacific, but they never got to the next stage.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Dan: Ant and I split the songwriting 50/50 - we write all the songs together and then we bring the tracks to Dave and Drew, who then add their flair to the guitar riffs and the drum beats. The music usually comes first when we write, and then lyrics naturally form whilst we’re working out the melody – the topics usually relate around situations, circumstances or an outlook we believe in! For example, ‘Life in Short’ focuses on embracing life and your own personal potential, whereas our upcoming single, ‘Not Telling You’, explores hidden away feelings in relationships.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Dan: We’re really into Nothing But Thieves and The Amazons at the moment.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Dan: Ant and I were big into Muse when we were younger, from the way Matt Bellamy incorporated the piano to their presence as a live band – it really spurred us to do it ourselves!

What do you do to prepare for a show?

Dan: Intense meditation… a specific diet & exercise routine… haha! No, we just make sure we’re tight and well-rehearsed. On the day we travel down together, have a laugh & enjoy the gig!

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Dan: Getting played on BBC Radio 1 for the first time was a huge buzz and it was great to have that recognition. Following that, it was amazing to get plays from the likes of BBC Introducing, XS Manchester, Absolute Radio, Amazing Radio and Jack FM, as well as national press from Metro and be invited for a live TV interview with London Live. It spurs us on to push harder, as it’s essentially an acknowledgement that we must be doing something right for these media outlet to push us.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Dan: Past – it’d have been amazing to tour with Queen or ELO – we could borrow their musicians and orchestral-ise some of our tracks!

Present – as before, it’d be awesome to support Muse, fulfill that childhood dream!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We’ve got a lot planned heading towards the end of the year and the start of 2019… so watch this space – you can follow us on our socials (all @pacificofficial). Till next time
