Zach Silver - vocals, Tom Hollands - guitarist, Conor - guitarist, Jack Warren - bassist, James Gillingham - drummer.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Oceans? How long has the band been around?

The current line up of Oceans is made up of members from Blue Eyed Giants, Derelict Dream and Sweet Flees! This line up has been going since late 2015. A simpler time...

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We've gone through a fair few non permanent band names. I'd say the longest we've had a band name that wasn't our current name was about a week. We got our current name 'Oceans' from Mallory Knox's song 'Oceans'. To be fair, they're really not the only band with a song called 'Oceans'. A fairly common word in rock haha.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

It's a democracy when it comes to the writing process. Everyone contributes to the songs. In regards to the themes of the songs, our lyrics aren't too direct, therefore leaving room for the listener to interpret the meaning to how they want to perceive it. We mainly base our themes on social matters, personal relationships and metal instability.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

At the moment we'd probably say Holding Absence, Jaws, Deftones, Pvris and Good Tiger. For the most part, those bands are quite different from each other but it is those bands who are shaping our current sound.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Like so many musicians in rock, it's got to be Nirvana! I think that was the first inkling of why so many people have started their careers in music. Nirvana have had a bigger effect on the industry than they probably ever knew.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Whilst Zach and James go away and do their vocal warm ups, the rest of us compromise our performance by sinking a few beers. Haha nah I'm only joking! Kind of...

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Last year we released a single called 'What You Did to Me'; the whole process of releasing that song was really great. The song did really well and people liked it. We try and base a lot of what we do on that song so I'd say a big highlight for us was releasing that song.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Pretty much any rock band from the 90's. The 90's seemed like a crazy time in music and it's fascinating watching live shows from that era because it looks like total mayhem! That time is pinnacle of today's rock music as well. If I had to choose, I'd probably say Foo Fighters!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Yes! On March 13th look out for our brand new EP called 'Far From Composure' and music video called 'Ctrl' that we're releasing! It's the going to be a good day!
