Unsigned Spotlight: Northwood

Northwood is an alternative hardcore band from Biddeford, Maine. Bred out of a collective passion for hardcore, the trio look to attack the sonic soundscape with the same vicious ferocity of the brutal cold and endless melancholy of Northeast living.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Nick Bilotta - Vocals/Bass
Ian Edwards - Drums
Bailey White - Guitar

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Northwood? How long has the band been around?

We are a recently formed band as of this year and had no prior playing experience with each other up until early 2019.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We started as Northwood and the reason being we were looking for a name that signified where we were all from. Two of us are from Maine, one of us
is from Michigan.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Our writing process is a collaborative effort, we stand in a room with our instruments and write the songs together. Our first EP that we are currently finishing is based on major issues and themes regarding different "regions" of the country (U.S.). We started with this concept for our first record and hopefully the
music will evolve organically from here.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We all kind of have our perspective facets of metal/hardcore/punk. We try not to emulate any bands. But right now Ian is obsessed... with Every Time I Die. Bailey... The Threats, I Am Noah. And Nick has been listening to Daughters on repeat for 8 months.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Lamb of God in 2016, Ian and Bailey saw them and immediately got into the
idea of starting a new group.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Nick likes to yell like Colossus, Bailey nervously paces, and Ian practices his rudiments...

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Our first show was a large festival in Portland, Maine, we got to play a packed rooftop at a well-known hardcore venue.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

This was a tough question to answer... we got into our first band fight over it and it's still going on. We're arguing over the big 5, "Pantera" being the one. But would anyone look good next to Dimebag?

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We do everything in house, we are 150% independent. We're constantly writing and recording and we mix, master, and distribute our own music. We encourage people to stay connected, follow us over the next few months because we have a lot of tracks to drop.
