Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Jesse and Scott play guitar and switch off between main vocals, I (nate) play bass, Kayla is another guitarist, and Tyler plays drums.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Northernmost? How long has the band been around?

I was recently part of a pop punk band from Rhode Island called Southpier. I resigned from Southpier towards the beginning of Northernmost’s most recent tour. Jesse had a melodic hardcore project called Pathfinder, Tyler was in a metalcore band called Impulse and Kayla came from a hardcore band called The Navidson Record. I’m the last member to have joined Northernmost but we’ve been a band since the beginning of 2014.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

As far as I know, the origin of the name was a top choice in a number of band names we had in mind, but it has been Northernmost since the full length was released.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We all play a part in the writing process but I would have to say that Jesse, Tyler and Scott play the biggest roles in writing for us. Our songs have followed a theme of describing emotional experiences that I’m sure many listeners can relate to. We are definitely looking to keep that connection going in future releases.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We all draw influence from a wide range of musical genres, but two bands we’ve been repeatedly compared to are Brand New and Balance and Composure.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

I wouldn’t be able to pin point one specific show as we’ve collectively been to hundreds, but for me I wouldn’t have picked up a guitar if it weren’t for my dad.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc

Lots of beauty sleep and usually lots of burritos.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

The biggest highlight of Northernmost’s career was probably the tour we recently got home from. Being able to play a show per night for over two weeks and work our way out to the Midwest was the best experience for me and for us as a band.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

We talked about this while we were on the road and decided that the best tour ever would be with us, A Will Away, Born without Bones and Make Do and Mend. But touring with Nirvana would be tight.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
