Vanessa Ortiz - rapper and songwriter
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Ness Heads? How long has the band been around?
I’ve always been a solo artist. I changed my artist name from Ness to “Ness Heads” in July.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Well my name’s Vanessa so that’s where “Ness” comes from. Heads has to do with the writing of my music. I write about my experiences so I view those as my different “heads” Writing from different perspectives of Ness.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
I write my songs. Usually write my music about past love experiences or past encounters. Love making songs that display confidence. My writing styles tends to use comparisons to get my message across.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Syd, XXXTentacion, Nirvana, Silversun Pickups, Travis Scott
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
The Weeknd
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
I have a playlist I made that gets my hype so just listen to that.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Opening up for Lil Wayne in Vegas at an AVN Awards Show
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Nirvana. I feel like I could learn so much from them. Especially writing and song structure. Plus feel like they looked like a good time.
