From the hub of heavy electronic and modern sound, My Demons Galore have brought rock back to Brooklyn. With hard-hitting riffs, striking lyrics and anthemic melodies, their theatrics mirror those of Queen, Muse, and My Chemical Romance. They hold the torch for the lost and the broken as they balance these contrasting forces. Triumphantly, they have accepted themselves for their next project with their newfound strength to overcome and conquer.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to My Demons Galore? How long has the band been around?

My Demons Galore formed in the disgustingly humid NYC summer of 2015, so that makes it a little over 3 years now. We had all been in multiple projects prior to committing to this band (The Boardwalkers, RedoX, White Hot Spotlight – to name a few). Dan (the singer) worked in multiple commercial, wedding and corporate bands all around New York.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

This is the only name that’s been stuck with us since the formation. It took a lot of effort to come up with something more or less original and not sound like another cliché (although, let’s be honest, all band names are clichés by definition lol). The word “Demons” in our context refers more to internal/mental struggles, rather than any satanic references. It more speaks to the variety of our personalities, the internal battles with our demons that help us shape the unique sound of the band.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

It usually starts with Dan bringing a very rough demo to a rehearsal studio, where the song receives proper arrangement and gets polished to perfection. We spend a long time tweaking songs and thinking about ways to introduce more sounds – anything from orchestral brass and strings, to percussion elements, keys, synths etc. Generally, we try to move away from a more generic approach (guitar-bass-drums) and think about ways to incorporate new sounds with every release. I think only time will show how this is going to be different in months/years from now, but we do our best to keep the sound big, fresh and inspiring.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We are always inspired by the classic acts, as well as any modern band that challenges their style and creates new ways to engage with the ever-changing audiences. Just to name a few:

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

I would say it was probably a hybrid of Queen and My Chemical Romance. In many ways, MCR were inspired by Queen in their songwriting and vocal style. It is that combination of edgy, fast-paced music, the story behind the lyrics and epic delivery of emotional vocals that was so inspiring to us.

What do you do to prepare for a show?

We do yoga and meditate over a bottle fine bourbon... With all seriousness though, we try not to think too much about how to prepare mentally, and usually just go straight at it. Obviously, this is once we’re well-rehearsed, which is the most important thing.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Playing a headliner gig at NYC’s Gramercy Theatre in 2017. 

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Motley Crue would definitely be number 1 – their level of insanity and debauchery on and off stage has always been very close and appealing to us. Another band would probably have to be Biffy Clyro – they are one of the best modern acts with an incredible following and bloody great live shows.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We released our most recent music video “Carry Your Own Light” because we wanted to tell people battling with their mental demons “Hey, we know what you mean, we’ve been there and are still going through shit in our lives.
