Please list your name.

Alex Kouvaris

For starters, what bands were you a part of prior to Motionyear?

Dress2impress, Passing Planets, Boundary Lines

What’s the origin of that name?

Originally the name was Quiet Like A Thief. Although it was named after one of my favorite bands, Can't Swim, there were quite a few bumps in the road with the old lineup. After taking time to get my head together, writing and recording new music, 2022 was officially the year to put everything into motion. With that being said, the band’s name was rebranded to Motionyear.

What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Main themes of our songs are about growing up, to doubting what the future may hold, and color in the transitional periods of our lives. The music is classified as “throwback” but focused on keeping things modern. The vocals have a raw edge that puts vibe front and center, yet catchy and melodic. I would say that these themes will continue as we write new songs.

What artists are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Can’t Swim, The Story So Far, Neck Deep, No Pressure, Action/Adventure, Movements, and much more.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to get into music?

Blink-182’s ‘Dude Ranch’ was the first album I have ever bought, and since then, I was very excited to join a band.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

Typically we wait a couple days before a live show to rest up and not be worn out. As a vocalist, I drink a lot of tea with honey and stay hydrated.

What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

We have gone on to be featured in reputable media outlets, including New Noise Magazine, Substream Magazine, Alternative Press, Outburn Magazine, Loudwire, and more.

If you could tour with any musical act, past or present, who would they be and why?

Honestly, any of the bands listed above due to their catchy music and energetic performances. Any/all of those bands would be awesome to hop on a tour with.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
