Unsigned Spotlight: Mischief Night

Marcus and Mallory are soulmates who have been recording and performing/touring together for the last 3 years. Marcus moved up to New York from Philadelphia and shortly thereafter, put together what would be Mischief Night with Mallory performing percussion. Together with their friends Chris and Andy, they've been able to craft a very special variant of modern psych rock.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Marcus Kitchen- Guitars, Vocals, Songwriting, Keyboards

Mallory Feuer- Percussion, vocals, violin

Chris Carrigan- Guitar, Bass, Keyboards

Andy Siegel- Bass, Vocals

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Mischief Night?

Marcus was in a group called Daddy Long Legs back in Philadelphia. Mallory fronts a group called The Grasping Straws.

How long has the band been around?

3 Years

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Marcus: I just love Halloween and Mischief Night. The mood it creates in me is unique.

Who writes your songs?

Mostly Marcus and Mallory write.

What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We have a wide range of themes including historical events, modern politics, science, meta-mind, etc. Of course they change over time. Inspiration is all around and always in flux.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Marcus: I’ve always loved Hella and The Beach Boys. If I could somehow fuse them together I would be happy.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Neutral Milk Hotel inspired me to write my own songs. I was young when I heard those tunes and they had a big affect on me.

What do you do to prepare for a show?

I like to have 1 beer and sort of play wallflower for a while to get focused. I get tense before we play, even after all this time

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Mallory and I go on tours occasionally. Also the release show for our last album “The Great American Worm” was a blast in my opinion.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I would probably tour with any of my friends bands to be honest. I know they’re hard working, good people that are in it for the right reasons.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you, we love you!!
