MAXDMYZ is well established on the UK scene having built its reputation over the years with stunning live performances and recording some of the most innovative and original alternative metal ever to come out of the UK music scene.
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Jay, Drums – Vortex, keys – A’Zedd, bass guitar – Roger Kirchner, guitar – and me Twister, vocals
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Maxdmyz? How long has the band been around?
I was in a band called Blood Simple, Vortex in Thought Criminals, A’Zedd in Soho Groove, Jay in White Plastic Fanbase, and Roger in Apophis. Maxdmyz been around in one form or another under this name since the turn of this century,
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
A fellow founding member came up with the name – I’ve no idea what it means and I didn’t ask. Maybe it was his tag...
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
We all do the music but I do the lyrics – as for themes, Love, death, sex, conflict, mental illness, anger, despair, hope and joy – no, I don’t think they’ll ever change
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
The band I’m in.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Watching The Beatles run around a car park to Can’t Buy Me Love in the movie Hard Day’s Night.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Plank for 4 minutes, 60 pressups, 100 weighted sidebends, 50 each side – then 20 minutes of chakra meditation, usually centred on the throat.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
In terms of Mammon, getting a couple of £400 cheques for radio play – in terms of notoriety, providing the music for an Eminem/Royce da Five Nine rap – in terms of satisfaction, connecting with the last fan who emailed us saying she was into the band.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Type O Negative and Pantera – they just seemed to have such a good time – I’d like to have been there.
