For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Locals Only? How long has the band been around?

Craig and I [Joey] were a part of a metal band called "MASSiVE" and James was in a band called "Dugout" (both from upstate NY). We got together for this project in September of 2016.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name "Locals Only" was originally a song name that we got from the movie "Lords Of Dogtown". We were all pretty big into skating in our early years and can relate to that whole "skate rat" lifestyle. The Z Boys had so much heart for their craft and dedicated their lives to skateboarding.. It's the same for us, we live to play music.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We all put a good amount of input into the songwriting process. It'll usually starts with Craig writing an instrumental and then I'll come in with a melody and James will throw some sick bass lines. It's all pretty organic. The songs are mostly about past relationships and lessons that I've learned over the years. Some real growing up/moving on type shit.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

I'd say we all have a bunch of different bands that inspire our style of writing. But if I were to pick a few...I'd have to say it's bands like The Maine, The Story So Far, etc. that inspired the instrumental side and bands like The Used, Cartel, and State Champs have really molded the way that I sing.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

We've all been going to warped tour since we were kids. For me personally, I've been in bands since I was a really little kid. Bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan were probably the first bands I got into that made me want to start a band.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

I do a bunch of vocal warm ups. We do a lot of physical warm ups and stretching too. We all just try to keep the spirits high and get stoked.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Just coming out to LA to play Emo Nite & being able to go on Warped all summer. Especially being that we're a brand new band.. It's pretty crazy.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I'd love to tour with so many bands, but if I had to choose any present bands it'd probably be the newer bands that are really killing it in the scene. Bands like state champs, knuckle puck, neck deep, as it is, with confidence.. I feel like it'd make sense if we were to tour with them.
