Unsigned Spotlight: LIAR
Intertwining genres to create a sound that blends elements of hardcore, emo rap, hip-hop and metal, LIAR is a four-piece band hailing from Melbourne, existing as a rebranded formation of Wake The Blind.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to LIAR?
"I was also a guitarist for indie rock band Gorilla Orchestra, however I currently have a side project called ‘twosmiles’ that embraces the new genre of “hyperpop” and emo rap.” - Anthony.
How long has the band been around?
The band was formed in October 2021.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The origin was inspired by a project of Mitch and Con's called 'Liars', we decided to keep it going and turned it into 'LIAR'.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
"Adam and I were the main writers for current singles 'DECLINE' and 'HYSTERIA', however Mitch and Con have begun writing along with us. The main theme of our songs at the moment are callouts to arrogant people with huge egos. I decided to implement lyrical styles from modern hip hop and to contrast from past topics I have written about. These topics will change over time, I am currently planning to write about several personal topics that have impacted me in significant ways.” - Anthony
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Alpha Wolf, City Morgue, Dropout Kings, $uicideboy$, UnityTX, Within Destruction, Xen0christ, Zheani, 100 Gecs.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
"Being introduced to the Melbourne alternative music scene in my teen years was my main inspiration to start a band. I went to a bunch of All Ages shows in venues such as Wrangler Studios every weekend and saw some sort of show being put on. Some of those bands consisted of Aburden, Belle Haven, Ocean Grove, Polaris and Stepson. In which some have grown and continue to inspire me.” - Anthony
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
We stretch out prior to playing our instruments and perform two songs unplugged to warm up.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Seeing 15k+ Spotify streams on our first single 'DECLINE' which was amazing to see within the first couple of months of it being out.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
We would love to play shows and tour with some great Australian bands that are killing it recently such as Alpha Wolf, Diamond Construct, Earth Caller, Starve, To The Grave, Void Of Vision.
