For starters, what bands were you a part of prior to going solo?

Most notably Acadia and Glass Canyon, but before that, a number of local bands like The Royal Bones and Whenartiswar.

What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

I tend to write about real life situations and experiences; freeing yourself from toxic relationships is a major theme, depression and mental health issues, heartache, etc. My music has definitely gotten more hopeful and positive over the years, and the new album has a lot of songs about taking your power back and finding light in the dark.

What artists are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Too many! But mainly Glassjaw, Deftones, Underoath, Fugazi, Helmet, The Cure, and Descendents.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to get into music?

As cliché as it may be, I’d have to say Linkin Park. I was 10 years old the first time I ever heard them, and I knew right then that music was something I needed to be doing. They were the gateway into alternative music for me.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …

I’m such an old man, I always have to stretch before I play. That and a couple beers definitely don’t hurt.

What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

I’d have to say the series shows that Acadia played after releasing “All Heart” were definitely a highlight for me. Everyone was connecting with the music and it was just a good time really. That and a couple years back I played a show with Four Year Strong when was in Glass Canyon. They were all super chill dudes.

If you could tour with any musical act, past or present, who would they be and why?

I’d love to tour with Silverstein. They’re a band that’s always tight live, and they were a huge inspiration for me growing up.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

My new album coming out early next year, and it’s the thing I’m most proud of musically. I’d love for people to check it out.
