Unsigned Spotlight: JLM

JLM is an artist, hailing from Atlanta, GA. And his goal is to make music that pushes the boundaries and finds your mood.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

JLM - Producer/vocalist/Being the man/Everything

For starters, what bands were you a part of prior to JLM? How long has the band been around?

JLM was part of various rock and metal bands in the past but is most known for being in the band Artessa. Artessa is a metalcore band located in Atlanta, GA. He played bass and sang clean vocals for the band. After departing from Artessa, he formed his new solo project "JLM" to introduce his own style(s) of music to the world, which can varie drastically per song.

The project has been around since February 26th, after launching his first single "Reality".

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The origin of JLM is actually his initials, and no, he has not changed it.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Tyler Kimberly (an outside production artist) creates/helps produce most of JLM's music. They both work hand-in-hand to create the thickest and newest sounds.JLM typically creates the initial skeleton of the song, then sends it to Tyler Kimberly to make it sound as thick as possible. JLM then finishes the song up by recording his vocals by recording with a SM7b and Cloudlifter.

The main themes of the songs stem from JLM never being able to fulfill his dream. Growing up, he followed the path of trying to live the American dream while not trying to live out his own.

I believe the topics will definitely change overtime. His first 6 songs upon release will be focused on the above topic, but he has plans to change up the style of music with every song and lyrical concept to be more relatable to his audience.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

So many. The biggest ones are Twent One Pilots, Oliver Tree, Little Big, AWOLnation, and Older Linkin Park. Even though those are my top 5, I love all types, and many more artists. I will give every song and styler a chance.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

There was not one specifically, but damn, does Oliver Tree relate to me the most.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Usually before the show, I get my mind in the zone by chugging a couple beers, slapping myself in the face and telling myself over and over "This is my stage, you got this".

No matter the size of the crowd, I never get too nervous before a performance but I always bring the energy 110% while performing.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Being able to create my own music to share to the world. I never had this option being in other bands, now that I do, I'm stoked to share a part of my soul to others.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Oliver Tree

Tyler the creator

Joji

Billie Eilish

Post Malone

These artists seem genuine af and go HARD live. I would love to hang and perform along side with him.
