How long has the band been around?

In Shades has been established since Summer of 2014 starting in South Texas.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

In Shades started on the premise that life isn't just black or white; and that life comes in shades.

Who writes your songs?

Andrew is the main song writer with other members adding in their own parts.

What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think
these topics will change over time?

We currently base our songs on movies with topics of love and the realities of life for example ( The Little Giants, Forrest Gump, Mighty Ducks ect.) Our first ep consists of a lot of Andrews personal life and stories. So we may change over time as well.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Decoder, Ugly Colors, Dance Gavin Dance, Balance and Composure, Moose Blood, Defeater

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a
band?

Starting as a five piece we have always looked to becoming like Polyenso. A big band with lots of different instruments. Leading us to add on our 6th member on guitar.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Our trumpet player will go over some scales prior to showtime. Vocals usually sing along to songs on the way to shows or in the car beforehand. Other than that we drink a beer or two and sit back before performing.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Our 5 track EP Trying which dropped in May. We had an EP release show that brought in over 100 attendees which brought us a lot of joy to see. We are sure this is just the beginning!

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and
why?

We all listen to different music! But if I (Isaac) would pick, we love Journey, Mars Volta or At The Drive In, Ugly Colors, Free Throw, Balance and Composure. I could go on.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

In Shades is a group of some of the best friends you will meet. Not one of us was just picked here and there; we were a family from the start who jammed everyday and simply took our music to the stage. We have tours along with new music planned for the end of 2017, and are excited to be on this journey.
