The core of the Illogistical Resource Dept. consists of Dan Menapace and Noa Oz who have been playing together in various projects for nearly 12 years. Both were in earlier projects where they opened for John Taylor and Spock’s Beard as well as members of Death Angel and Agent Orange. In 2012 the pair of players recruited guitarist Jim Harris which completed the lineup of the Illogistical Resource Dept. While not afraid to take chances, the I.R.D. takes instrumental music into new territory by not only blending styles and genres, but by creating a form of experimental music that’s easily accessible.

Dan Menapace - Bass, Samplers, Vocals, additional Guitars

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Illogistical Resource Dept.? How long has the band been around?

The I.R.D. has been around for about 3 years. Before that, Noa and Dan were in a band together called Kineto.
Jim was in various bands and had an electronic project called R U OK?

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We haven't changed the name, but it basically means the place where illogical sounds derive from.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Dan and Jim both write the music and Dan writes the lyrics. We tend to focus on rather unorthodox subjects. Everything from Gargoyles to Sea Urchins.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Devo, Skeleton Key

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Primus, Rush, Faith No More, Tool

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

We just pray to Ezorak, our band mascot, and hope that we don't play any brown notes.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Playing the Green Earth Festival in Venice and making our music videos is always a blast.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Probably Oingo Boingo because they looked like a fun band to be around, and they're all great musicians.
