Jimmy McRorie - Bass
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Idle Fret? How long has the band been around?
Jimmy played in a killer band called ViperLove, the rest of us have been kicking around our bedrooms prior to IDLE FRET. We've been playing together since 2011. We dropped our 1st EP in 2013 which gave us reasonable success. After a few set backs we finally got the new album REBORN finished.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
IDLE FRET is just a lame pun from the phrase Idle Threat...we're stuck with it now haha
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
The brothers Hayden and Daniel throw around ideas then we get together as a band and see how they pan out. Hayden as well as writing some of the main guitar hooks on the album also wrote all the lyrics! We're a rock band, the songs have a lot of anger behind them. I don't think that will change.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Airbourne, AC/DC, Foo Fighters, Rose Tattoo. Hayden loves Myles Kennedy.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
We all love Australian rock, especially AC/DC. We can talk about AC/DC for hours with out stopping, even after all these years. The sound hard rock bands produce awoken something inside us all. We're lucky to have been able to find each other in a small country town like Albury.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
we eat and drink. Hayden does some weird warm ups in his car with a CD. It's hilarious.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Phil Rudd (AC/DC's drummer) heard our album and loved it! That's pretty fucking amazing! We ate The Dead Daisies sandwiches at a gig one time. We've also been lucky enough to share the stage with KINGSWOOD a few times - bloody great live band and really nice guys.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
AC/DC hands down. We went and saw them perform in Spain last year, even in their 60s they put on a better show than bands our age. Can you imagine what it would be like seeing them live when they were in their prime?!?
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Support live bands. No matter what genre, just support them. Go to their shows, listen to their music, buy their merch / music if you can, support them on social media. Just support bands.
