Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Casey House: Drums / Tyler Wayne: Guitar / Jason Stevens: Bass and Backup Vocals / Jared Griffith: Guitar / Ryan Polesko: Vocals

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Give 'Em Hell, Kid? How long has the band been around?

Jared: "I was in a band called, Analects before joining up with Casey and Tyler. We didn't do much, but played a few shows."

Tyler: "I was in the band, Sailing Elsewhere as their drummer. That's how I met Jared. He recorded our demo."

Jason: "I have been in a few music projects over the years, but this is the first one that I could really see going far with. I was in a band called, Code Name Kid before joining this band. Ryan and I started messaging each other over facebook (Laughs) because we thought each other was cute, and that's when he had invited me to join."

Ryan: "I still think you're cute... Didn't Code Name Kid move to Chicago?"

Jason: "Yeah."

Casey: "We have been a band since 2014, but because of members leaving, Jason joining and stuff like that, we really weren't active as this unit until 2016."

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Ryan: "I was running one day at the gym and the My Chemical Romance song called, "Give 'Em Hell, Kid" came on and I was like, "That's it!" I pitched it to the guys and we changed our name to that and it has stuck since. We were initially called, "Some Say In Fire", but we didn't care for that name and so we just changed it to the album title."

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Jared: "I wrote a good majority of the album, as far as rhythm guitar goes, but Tyler took care of most of the lead lines and the structure of the songs. Casey and I usually build the back bone of the songs and then everyone else puts in their thoughts and their own twist on things. The first album was primarily written to incorporate two vocalist, unclean vocals, and clean vocals. Our past vocalist stepped down, and Ryan took on both parts, which he has gotten better at as far as breathing."

Ryan: "I write a lot of lyrics, and most of them deal with my personal internal struggles with daily life. However, there are some songs that I choose to show my personal religious beliefs and also my political views. I feel very strong about the current political climate, and any chance I can get to stick my middle finger up to the hyper conservative, overly religious, far right, I make a B-line for it. I am a violent homosexual, hahaha! I don't really care to write about the good in the world, because there are so many pop-punk bands, or rather, pop artists in general who do that kind of thing. Save the happiness for the Ariana Grande's. We can handle the darker side of life."

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Jared: "The Ongoing Concept, Silverstein, Beartooth."

Casey: "Underoath, Capstan, Every Time I Die"

Ryan: "Capsize, Sworn In"

Tyler: "All That Remains."

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Ryan: When I was 12, I got this DVD off of EBAY called, "Dir en Greys': Macabre Tour". I still remember to this day watching that DVD on repeat for hours after school and just being so fixated on the visual performance of these men that looked like women. It was goth, it was dark, and it was sexy. That's when I knew I wanted to be on the stage."

Jason: "My dad played bass in bands when I was a kid, so I was inspired by him to follow that same road. 

Jared: "Seeing the Devil Wears Prada when they were playing the, "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord" album at the Norva, in Norfolk, Virginia really set the goal for me."

Tyler: "My mom was friends with a lot musicians as I was growing up. I picked most of it up from her friends as I got older, and developed my own taste and style."

Casey: "My dad as well was a musician,  and he inspired me to want to play music. He was a part of that band called, "Snuff"."

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Ryan: "I do vocal warmups and usually do a few push ups, sometimes soccer stretches with Casey."

Casey: "Yeah I do some forearm stretches and practice on a drum pad to get myself ready."

Jason: "I chain smoke like crazy right before we go on. It's like as the time gets closer for us to go on, I get more and more anxious."

Tyler: "I just do finger stretches and warm up my fingers."

Jared: "Same. Sometimes Ryan gives me back rubs."

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Casey and Ryan: "The Miss May I show!"

Ryan: "We opened for Miss May I and we were the last of the locals to go on, so most of the other bands got to see us perform and the crowd was pretty huge."

Casey: "I'm pretty sure it sold out. If not it was close, because it was packed."

Ryan: "Getting to jump on stage with Capsize during, "Tear Me Apart" was pretty great. I watch that video on our instagram at least once a week."

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Casey: "Any of the bands that we have listed as like our influences are on our radar to tour with."

Tyler: "I'd really like to tour with Awake At Last. We have a good time with them and their fans generally enjoy what we do."

Jared: "Periphery or Protest The Hero would be amazing!"

Jason: "The Used would be fun."

Ryan: "I'm gonna say it, because name drop, The GazettE for our Japanese followers, and Ariana Grande, because why the hell not?"
