Unsigned Spotlight: Ghosts Again

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

My name is Alex and I play guitar and lead vocals. Arun plays drums, and Brandon plays bass.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Ghosts Again? How long has the band been around?

Brandon and I were in a band together called “Close Up on the Quiet Ones” for about 4 years. Arun was in a band called Messenger Down. Now it’s been about 6 months since we formed “Ghosts Again”.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We actually went through a lot of bickering and discussing looking for a band name. It took us about 3 weeks to come up with one. We just had no clue what to call ourselves. We went through so many names and never found one that stuck until I put “Ghosts Again” on the table. It was the first thing that really had any sort of ring to it.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

The primary writers are myself and Arun. I do almost all the lyrics (though I’m always open to other members contributing), a lot of the guitar work and song layouts while Arun does pretty much all of our sampling (keys/effect/auxiliary percussion) and also does a lot of the drums. However with both of us playing multiple instruments (I play guitar, drums, bass, and piano. Arun plays drums, guitar, and dabbles in piano), both of us contribute a ton sort of randomly to each instrument. Sometimes Arun will write an entire guitar section and sometimes I’ll write an entire drum section. Hell sometimes one of us will write all the instruments of a section. It just depends on the flow and who has the ideas.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

I think as a band, we took a lot of inspiration from bands like Underoath, Pierce the Veil, and Saosin. When writing the upcoming EP we sort of got into a lot of those vibes. With newer stuff that we’re currently writing (we stay busy), there’s a lot of Letlive. Influence seeping in as well as a more “fun” and bouncy vibe that could be likened to bands like Issues. I personally have listened to a lot of pop and rap music lately so I can definitely feel influences like The Weeknd making their way in also.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

For me personally? It was Senses Fail 100%. They were my first favorite band when I was 13 and I spent a lot of time on youtube watching live videos of them and it was just so cool to me I knew that was what I wanted to do. I’ve been chasing it ever since.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

We all try to get outside to a quiet place and do some stretches and before our set so we’re not all too sore the next day. I do a few vocal warmups and try to drink a lot of water and just generally try to get my blood flowing. We used to go a lot more in depth with it but I guess we’ve gotten lazy these days. Haha

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Probably the week that we announced the band honestly. We really just didn’t expect the support that we received. People we so nice and supportive of what we were doing it was so humbling.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I think collectively as a band that would have to be Pierce the Veil. I think next up would be Underoath. Ever since I’ve been playing music with these guys we’ve just always looked up to those bands for inspiration. They both put on a phenomenal live show and never compromise their art.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank for having me! Hope everyone enjoys our new EP “The Closest Thing to Closure” that comes out April 22nd!
