Bobby Thomas- Guitar

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Gears? How long has the band been around?

Trip was in a band called Urban Rebel (Miami, FL)

Jimmy has been in/toured with most recently, but no limited to, dive (NJ), Dead Superstar (NY), Breathing Theory (FL), SKINMASK (Los

Angeles)

Chris has been in Needlemouth, Crawl 420, and Solution

Bobby was in Eyes of Fire

GEARS has been around for almost 2 years.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

We just wanted a strong name.  GEARS are what make a machine move, every gear in a machine has to work together in order for the whole band to function effectively.  One gear goes week and the whole machine fails.  That has been the name of this project from the beginning.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

With this latest EP, “Pride Comes Before the Fall,” Trip and I (Jimmy) wrote the songs with Corey Lowery.  Mainly, we write songs about everyday life really.  We’re a working class band, so we write about things that affect us, whether it be Politics, Religion, inner turmoil, pretty much themes that most people can relate to.  I hope that the topics do change over time.  As the band evolves and meets successes and defeats, what we write about will be strongly affected.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Man, we draw influence and inspiration from all over.  Artists that we grew up with like Bowie, Zeppelin, and Alice in Chains to modern day bands that just kill it everywhere they go like Deftones and Sevendust.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

The first time I heard Led Zeppelin, I knew that was what I wanted to do.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

We don’t really have any rituals other than try to relax, joke around with each other and maybe have a few drinks just to kinda get into the mindset of, “all the logistical stuff is out of the way, we got here safely, we’ve done all the “business” stuff, now we get to play and have fun!”  That’s what its all about.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

We’ve had a few.  Just being able to go out there on the road and play for people that dig the band has been awesome.  We’ve gotten a great response everywhere we’ve gone.  Right Now, it’s the release of this latest EP.  We’re really proud of how far the band has come since the first EP “Set in Motion.”  This record is more musical and the writing has just come so far.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Any of the bands listed previously I think would be an amazing experience.  I mean, whether possible or not, to tour with any of those bands that influenced us would be so cool.  Can you imagine standing side-stage while Jimmy Page played “The Rain Song” or when Bowie belted the chorus to Space Oddity?!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just to thank you for your time and support!  Hope to see you on the road soon!
