Unsigned Spotlight: For All The Emptiness

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

jonathan: vocals, arrangement, writing, lyrics, programming

sebastian: production, mixing, writing, programming

in the past we have also had live members: will and prognan

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to For All The Emptiness? How long has the band been around?

jonathan: this is the first real project i have been involved in, in the past the bulk of the projects have been musical theater or choir related.

sebastian: sebastian has been a part of many bands, including komor kommando, icon of coil, mooniter, melt, and so on.

the band was created by jonathan, who had the idea for this project since high school but released the first album back in 2011.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

for all the emptiness is the reason we live, it is the reason we die. despite this, life is beautiful and worth living. just because everything in the end is meaningless, it’s ok. we don’t need a reason to be good to each other and be happy. we can do it just despite this.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

jonathan writes the songs, sebastian assists with the music. the main themes are focused on critical thinking and the love of reason.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

the music style is a combination of musical theater (jesus christ superstar, les mis, evita, and so on) and futurepop (vnv nation, neuroticfish, apoptygma berserk, and so on).

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

this question can be answered with a particular section of a particular video. apoptygma berzerk released a video/album called apbl98. in it there was a scene of two people in an audience fighting. the show was stopped by the lead singer, and he spoke to them. in the end both members ended up hugging and working it out. this is what art is all about.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

usually there is no time to prepare, we are still exhausted from loadin and are asked to get on stage pretty much after a line check/sound check.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

there have been a number of highlights, from touring the united states a couple times to being asked to perform in a number of festivals.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

a fun act to tour with would probably be sharon needles, because it would seem like such a fun match.
