Unsigned Spotlight: DS Bradford
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
D. S. Bradford - lead singer, guitarist, multi instrumentalist
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to DS Bradford? How long has the band been around?
I was in a band called Certain Tragedy from 2007-2009, I began performing solo from 2008-present
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
The name of the previous band was derived from a Saves The Day song. My current project is solo, so I use my own name. The name of my studio/publishing imprint is Equinox By Fireside. I might use that one day for a full group.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
I am the songwriter. The topics of most of the songs on Elemental Evolution have to do with the state of our existence as humanity and finding peace. I like to write about different topics, whatever inspires me, so I absolutely see that changing over time.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
My main influence is Coheed And Cambria. I also enjoy bands like Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, System Of A Down, and Bayside.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Back when I was starting out I listened to a lot of Nirvana. I loved watching bands after that and realized that I wanted to do that, so I learned how to play guitar and began writing songs.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect
I usually spend some time alone and breathe, clearing my mind completely and getting in the space to give my all to a performance.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
I personally feel that the release of Elemental Evolution is a huge step for me. These songs have so much to say and having it be so well received has been an incredible milestone. I've met many people who I've looked up to and been inspired by, but this EP being finished and set free is something I'll never forget. It's only the beginning.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
I would love to go on tour with Coheed And Cambria, they're my favorite band. I would go on a tour with Vino Alan, as well. We have a similar mindset in our art and I feel like it would be a great match.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would just like to say give Elemental Evolution a listen. Listen to the story. I'm always talking to people on social media, so if you have a question or want to talk about life and share stories with me, go for it!
