Unsigned Spotlight: Corrington Wheeler

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Corrington Wheeler? How long has the band been around?

As my first serious endeavor, I was the replacement front-man and final vocalist for an all-military member band in Okinawa, Japan called Signals. We released a full-length album 10 track album entitled "Never Meant To Follow". I coordinated the release of lyric videos for songs Decency For Debate and Age Doesn't Equal Wisdom (ft. Eric Ferraro of Asmara). Playing various shows across Japan, this was where I began gaining popularity from Live performances.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

I am a solo-artist and not currently in a band, although I do have a supporting band to aid in for live performances.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

I write all my own songs and contract out engineers to assist me in developing the instrumentals. The overall theme for all of my music up to this point has revolved around philosophy and self-development of the mind. Philosophy will continue to be a topic of discussion for as long as people exist, so I feel that my lyrical content is well grounded.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

I Am Abomination, Crown The Empire, Sleeping With Sirens, Issues, & Before Their Eyes

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Jesse Hasek of 10 Years spoke with me on the phone, early in my military career, and told me to pursue my passions, dreams, and to never give up. Because of him, I then left the military after my six year contract and began writing music full-time.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect

I stretch, do vocal warm ups, then all my performers and I huddle and each say something that we're thankful for.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

I've gotten to work with members of Sycamour, Jamie's Elsewhere, Dayseeker, The Color Morale, Darkness Divdided to create my new album. I've been fortunate enough to play onstage with members of Bobaflex, Seasons After, Trapt, Flyleaf, Vesperteen, & Alien Ant Farm. It's been all so amazing, but the greatest highlight was the first-time that I saw a fan in the crowd singing along with the song as I jumped around on stage, I almost cried.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I'd like to tour with A Day To Remember, Sleeping With Sirens, Crown The Empire, 10 Years, Panic At The Disco, & Fall Out Boy because not only do I like their music and base my marketing strategies off of theirs, but I think the exposure would be amazing.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you again for interviewing us, it truly means a lot and we appreciate the opportunity! We have 3 new music videos coming out and a new punk single called Mainsail that will be released this fall and winter.
