Unsigned Spotlight: Condition Baker

Condition Baker is a 90's pop-punk influenced band from Holbrook, MA.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Alec Verissimo (Guitar, Vocals) and Victor Camillo (Drums)

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Condition Baker? How long has the band been around?

Condition Baker has been around for about a year and a half now. Alec was involved in a band called “Secret of the Sound” where he also did guitar and vocals

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Originally we thought of “Baker Road” as a band name, because that’s the HQ of Condition Baker. We came up with the name Condition Baker after a Jawbreaker T-Shirt that had the title of one of their songs “Condition Oakland” on it. We thought to ourselves: “If we were from California that would be the name of our band”. After a day of coming up with different names, we agreed on Condition Baker.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Alec writes the songs, they’re mostly about shit that everyone goes through at some point of their life: relationships, working a crappy job, seeing things come crumbling down after putting so much work into something… I know pretty depressing stuff. We simply want our listeners to hear our songs and go “These guys get it, and things can get better”

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Old school Green Day (Kerplunk - Nimrod sound to be exact), Jawbreaker, Alkaline Trio, The Descendents, Bad Religion, Weezer, The Clash… There are many bands influencing us.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Simply the love for making and being involved with music made us want to start the band.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Victor may pound a few fireball nips prior to playing, we typically have our gear ready and set, Alec will tune up his guitar, and depending on how lazy we were, we’ll write out a setlist.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Our highlight has definitely been recording and releasing our debut EP.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

The only new band we would want to tour with would be the Interrupters, they’re sick it’s like Joan Jett and Rancid had a baby. In terms of old bands, to name a few: Green Day, Jawbreaker, Alkaline Trio, Bad Religion, Fugazi, Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Tool, pretty much any band we grew up listening to.
