Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.
Evan Krise - Guitar and Vocals
Ian Hudson - Bass and Synthesizer
Brandon Krise – Drums
For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Coldswell? How long has the band been around?
All of us have been in bands in the past. They were things we did for fun and when we were more inexperienced. This band started out as a solo project of mine and I realized I wanted to collaborate with other musicians more so I decided to turn it into more of a band. We started in 2015 and have been slowly growing since. - Evan Krise
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
We have been called Coldswell since day one, the name doesn't really have a meaning. I wanted a name that combined two words that also sounded natural to me. So cold and swell were the two that seemed to work best for me - Evan Krise
If you're familiar with the "Cellar Door" concept in Literature, that's basically it. It is a word that sounds pleasing and provides an aesthetic experience independent of any practical meaning - Ian Hudson
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Evan is the primary songwriter and he writes all of the lyrics. Ian contributes a good amount to the songwriting as well and we plan on expanding that and making everyone have more of a role in the creative process in the future. – Brandon Krise
The songs are mainly about my experiences with depression and anxiety. Our first two EP's are called Weary and Ruminate, if that provides some clarity. For sake of personal growth and mental health, maybe our topics will change. Otherwise, hopefully the subject matter resonates with an audience going through similar situations. - Evan Krise
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Dinosaur Jr. The Cure, Joy Division, Weezer, Silversun Pickups, Placebo, Cloakroom and Hum to name a few – Brandon Krise
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
I grew up watching New Order VHS tapes well-before YouTube was a thing. Seeing Peter Hook's stage presence made me want to start learning bass and pursue being a performer - Ian Hudson
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers album 'By the Way' inspired me to pick up the guitar and eventually learn the drums - Brandon Krise
As I am younger than my brother, I always listened to the bands that he liked so I heard a lot of 90's alternative from Pearl Jam to Alice in Chains as well as the Chili Peppers - Evan Krise
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, etc …
I'll usually go for a run before I get to the venue - Brandon Krise
Once we're set up, I like to run through some scales to warm my fingers up - Evan Krise
I show up to the venue a while before anyone else, unload my gear, and try to go for a walk around the area before the rest of the band arrives; I like exploring new places and getting some photography practice in when I can to unwind. - Ian Hudson
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
So far, finishing this record. We're really happy with how it turned out and we put a lot of work into it - Evan Krise
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Realistically any of the bands we listed earlier we'd be ecstatic to even play one show with - Evan Krise
