For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Bury MIA? How long has the band been around?

Devin and Justin were previously a part of Rock band Rating The Hate which played shows and released music primarily from 2012 to 2015. Darin has been playing guitar and singing with Amongst The Millions out of Oklahoma. Curtis was previously playing drums for a number of bands out of Chicago. Bury MIA has been around since October 2015.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Bury MIA is the bands original name. Devin and Justin came up with the ideas as a joke out of their love of word puns, the whole idea being that we hope someday the band’s name will be up on a marquis as "Bury MIA live tonight at the (venue)" which sounds like "bury me alive" when you say it aloud.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Justin writes most of the songs from a structural and melodic point of view but the magic comes from each member putting their own spin on it. Most of the songs tend to be about relationships of some sort: girlfriends, friends, the relationship one has with himself. Major themes include sex, the absurdity of life and when possible references to movies and other pop culture. We fully plan on never growing up so the idea of things changing over time is a pretty foreign concept to us.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We're inspired by a lot of the punk bands from when we were younger: Alkaline Trio, Blink 182, Rancid. It's always hard to nail down specific influences because by the time you've played with a ton of bands your inspiration is closely tied into the other musicians you've worked with over the years. We will say that the Denver music scene is really coming up and the local bands here push us to be better all the time.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Justin: Personally I have parents that were playing in a band when I was a baby. I remember being there are band practices and shows so I always fully expected to play music myself.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Curtis does a lot of bicep curls to make sure the ladies swoon while he's drumming. Other than that we spend a lot of time traveling so we try to get a full practice in the day that we have a gig.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

The biggest highlight of this band thus far was probably the reaction to our song Stereos. The song is relentless and catchy so we can usually get a bunch of people to belt it out with us.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

It’d be a blast to tour with Green Day or Blink 182 during the early 90s. The amount of pranking and other shenanigans would be insane to witness and join in on. We wouldn’t get a lot of sleep but at least there would be a lot of punches to the groin.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Just that we hope some new people check us out so we can buy drinks and get crazy.
