For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Blue Helix? How long has the band been around?

Sami: I have only been in Blue Helix which I started writing songs for in 2006. Blue Helix is my musical wife.

Wolf:  The only band I have ever been a part of was Blue Helix, I’ve been with Sami since 2008. I left for a few years in 2014, but came back to play with my brother from another.

Arman: I have been a part of a few bands, to name a few, Endless Grey, The People Now and Longshot Academy. I too was part of BH in 2008 but was in school and at the time didn’t have the time the band required.

Marco: I have played and recorded with LoNero, Shaylon, Eden's Curse (US), and still do with Sigma Project, The Absent Light, The Element, and A Dying Planet (with Jasun Tipton from Zero Hour).

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Sami: Blue Helix means human being born for music. Blue is the color of the voice chakra as well as the color representing creativity and music according to many spiritual articles I have read.  Helix is the physical representation of our D.N.A. This has been our band name since conception.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Sami: I write the songs in Blue Helix, however I definitely feel the band creates their own voice within the songs I create. Our song “Anodyne” wouldn’t be as melodic without Arman’s Lead riff over the chorus, and wouldn’t be as catchy without Marco’s Groove, and as epic without Wolf’s baseline. Everyone plays their part in a unique way. Our songs are about struggle, and overcoming adversity. My life has been very difficult in many ways, however I believe it’s how we manage our struggle that defines us. The songs will always have a sentiment of hope. No matter how dark, or melancholy the song, they usually end on a positive emotion.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Sami: I have been listening to a lot of Chris Cornell’s solo records, also this new up and coming band from Brazil called Ego Kill Talent.

Wolf: I listen to everything, but lately I have been blowing up my subs with EDM and the new Chili Peppers record.

Arman: I have been enjoying Richie Kotzen, and the Adrenaline Mob. Such amazing music.

Marco: The Pineapple Thief, Fates Warning , Porcupine Tree to name a few.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Sami: Yes, I was watching MTV and saw a video from a band Called Nirvana. I think the song was called “Smells like Blue Helix”

Marco: Megadeth inspired me to want to play music and to start a band.

What do you do to prepare for a show?

Sami: I warm up my voice about 2 hours before a show while sippin’ my hot peppermint tea with honey. I like to stretch my neck and back prior to performing. It relaxes me before I rock out.

Arman: I try to hit the gym, do finger warm-ups on the guitar.

Marco: I try to relax and remain calm. If there is time before the show a quick practice is always nice.

Wolf: I usually warm up on the bass a bit with our song “Bullets”, then I’ll smoke a cigarette, or two or three.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Sami: The highlight has definitely been getting interviewed on Sao Paulo, Brazil’s main Rock Station 89.1Fm Radio Rock. I have always dreamed of our band being on rotation on the greatest FM station on the planet. To me they have always been my favorite station, we have been on rotation for the last 2 months, every time they play our music, I am filled with so much joy.

Wolf: For me the article on the Huffington Post for the release of the new video “Anti-Social Butterfly”. That was amazing. My friends started calling me congratulating me.

Arman: Yeah, I agree with Wolf. The Huffington Post feature. That was incredible.

Marco: The interview with 89.1 was as well my favorite moment. Sami was so happy. I think he cried when they played the song for the first time on the air. (Sami: I did, lol)

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Sami: Bands of today that are going strong, I would say hands down The Foo Fighters, Muse, Radiohead, NIN and The Smashing Pumpkins. Bands of the past, The Doors , The Beatles and Soundgarden. I chose these bands because they are the best of the best in my opinion. I love their music. They all inspire me. I said The Doors because I would have love to have met Jim Morrison. Chris Cornell has been and always will be my biggest inspiration. To me he is “the tops”. The Beatles are the greatest songwriters to ever live.

Arman: That’s easy. Dream Theater. Why, because they are amazing! I wish we could have toured with AudioSlave.I know Sami agrees with me there.

Marco: Foo Fighters , Megadeth and Nickelback. All these bands are great live and they play in some really amazing venues all over the world.

Wolf: I would want to tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Korn. Bands of the past, I agree with Sami, The Beatles.

Sami: We are gearing up for our tour to Brazil this March. We are touring our album Anti-Social Butterfly and promoting our new anti-bully themed video for the title track off the record.
