Unsigned Spotlight: Below The Tide

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Chris Conley - Vocals, Brian Lamtman - Drums, James Neale-May - Bass, Jacob Greder - Guitar/vocals.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Below The Tide? How long has the band been around?

There are too many collectively between the four of us, but honorable mentions include Say Goodbye, Bury the Messenger, Lynchpin, and Beat To Quarters.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

It was drawn from a hat alongside several other names that had been approved.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

We all have a hand in writing our individual parts and all participate in the producing aspect of our writing process. The content tends to be about life's ups and downs as we have personally experienced, as well as our current view on the state of the world. They likely won't change anytime soon, but will surely expand as our experience in life grows.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We try not to be influenced by anything we listen to in our spare time, but some of our current listening includes Infant Annihilator, Taylor Swift, and 2000's-era Eminem.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Jake was inspired by his mother, who was been a touring musician for most of his childhood. James and Brian draw their inspiration from older metal acts like Kiss and Pantera, while Chris rounds out the group with some nu-school feel from Korn.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Usually there's some individual warm ups (stretches and scales for guitars, rudiments and rhythms for drums, and vocal exercises) followed by some full body stretching. We're active on stage, and don't enjoy feeling like death for days after a show. Other than that, we have a pre show smoking ritual, but nothing too complicated.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

We've played the Cleveland date of the Summer Slaughter Tour for several years now, and this was our second year playing Dirtfest in Michigan. Definitely two consistent highlights for us. This year we got the opportunity to play Nelson's Ledges Quarry Park with Mushroomhead and that was an amazing experience.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

We'd love to tour with just about any Sumerian Records band, and we each have our own personals we would have loved to go out with too. Some of the inspirations we mentioned earlier are included in that list.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Not much, other than stop out at a show sometime and say hi. We do this to have fun and to entertain people. We're still human though, so come and interact with us! Join the blue-collar deathcore team!
