For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to At The Moment? How long has the band been around?

At The Moment has been together since 2012.  We’ve all played in a lot of bands, but here are a few:

Daniel was part of The Inevitable Breakups and The Skastafarians

Dave was a part The Underbellys, The Wanda Jackson 5, and The Dixons

Emma is currently fronting I Am The Polish Army

Turner was a part of The Isles, Low Water, and Bel Air

Matt was a part of Angelspit, and currently is playing with Amelia Arsenic and Michael T & The Vanities. At The Moment has been together since 2012.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

After fronting The Inevitable Breakups for almost 9 years, I wanted to start a new project and therefore came up with a new name, At The Moment.  It seemed to fit the way I was writing for the project.  I wasn’t writing to try and fit a genre or style, just what I was feeling at the moment.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

I write the songs.  One song on the new album “In for a Ride” is a cover written by an old friend of mine.

I write about love, relationships, perseverance, and things that we feel as we go through our lives.  Going forward my topics may change depending on what I’m feeling or what is influencing me at the time.  I’m open to change and always looking to grow as a songwriter.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Lyle Lovett, Gregory Alan Isokov, Jason Isbell, Johnny Marr, David Bowie, Daryl Hall & John Oates, John Hiatt, Blake Mills, Charlie Worsham.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

I grew up playing saxophone and so I was always around music and loved performing. I graduated high school asked for a guitar.  By then I really wanted to be a songwriter and start a band.  There was no one band that influenced me to start a band.   I think at the time I was being introduced to a lot of alternative bands by my older brother.  I loved The Smiths, the Violent Femmes, New Order, but there were much more.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect

Ha. Actually sometimes stretching, but usually just one beer before show time.  Sleep is key too.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

I would say that we’re still playing after 5 years, we still love playing together, and that we’ve just released a 10-song vinyl album that we love very much.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I would be most happy doing a songwriters show with Lyle Lovett, where we trade off songs on acoustic.  I just love that format, and it’s stripped down to the bare song.  Lyle is such a great songwriter.  His lyrics really tell a story and he’s got a great sense of humor. Full band, I’d love to tour with Neill Finn.  I just think our styles would fit well.  He’s got an amazing voice and I’m a fan.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you for your time, for the questions, and for streaming our album, “In for a Ride”!  I hope you like it as much as we do.
