Unsigned Spotlight: Antithought

Antithought are a street punk/hardcore in St. Louis, MO.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Kyle - Vocals
Devin - lead guitar
Mikey - rhythm guitar
Blake - bass
Tim - Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Antithought? How long has the band been around?

Kyle has been in a bunch of St. Louis bands, none of which gained any notoriety. Devin and Tim were both in a metal band called Set the Sails!Mikey was and is currently in 431. Blake was in You're Not Kablamo!, was and is in Arsenals and Corporate States of America. We've only been together for about eleven months.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Antithought doesn't really have a particular meaning to us. We just went through this period in which we were constantly throwing out names, and someone just happened to come up with Antithought, and we all agreed on it.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Devin has written 95% of our music. Kyle has written most of the lyrics with Devin contributing a few songs as well. Our main topics are complete disgust and hatred for our standard of living, society, the government, and other powers that be. As well as the depression that's brought on by those things.
We may start writing more political songs in the future, but we will still be full of hate.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Career Soldiers, Last Lights, The Casualties, The Unseen, A Global Threat, Minor Threat, Gauze, Aus-Rotten

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

Kyle - No band in particular. I wasn't proficient on any instruments, and I just needed an outlet for all the shit that was going on in my head.
Devin - Bouncing Souls at Warped Tour 2004
Mikey - When I saw Backstreet Boys at nine years old, and I thought "I can do that."
Tim - Anti-Flag

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

Kyle does a vocal warmup. Other than that, we just drink.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Sharing a stage with The Virus and Who Killed Spikey Jacket?, and going fucking nuts during both their sets. We slung tons of beer, and pogoed so fucking hard. I was sore for days afterwards - Kyle

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Kyle - I would want to tour with Last Lights. They are my favorite hardcore band, and Dom is such an inspiration in everything I do. Just to sit down and talk with him once, or see him perform would be a dream come true.
Tim - Queen because they are badasses.
Devin - The Virus and Defiance because I love their music, and they were two of the first street punk bands I ever listened to. And Who Killed Spikey Jacket? because their fans are a bunch of lunatics.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Buy our EP off Bandcamp so we can finish recording our debut LP which will be out later this year on Collision Course Records. And so we can buy a van to come to your city and spit in your face!
