For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to (Hope / Esylium / Temblor)? How long has the band been around?
Bruno: Amenize started as a side-project 5 years ago when we released our first album "When Angels Turn Into Demons". As a full time band we've been around for about a year and a half, since Danilo joined the team and we started working on “Black Sky”.
What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?
Brain: The band name is purposely a complete paradox with the sound we make. Amenize is a Brazilian word that I guess that best translates to 'calm down'. We have never changed the band's name, it's Amenize since we started.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?
Brain: Our two albums have completely different themes and are both concept albums. “Black Sky” emphasizes the anti-alienation. We're trying to open people’s eyes to what could happen to our own world if we keep caring about the wrong things.
Danilo: Usually Brain would write some riffs and show them to the rest of the band, and afterwards we built the drum parts and vocals. It really worked for us because we tried to make the instrumental parts as cool as possible and then Bruno would decide what (and if) he would build over a very solid and interesting grounding.
What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
Brain: Bands that still make unique music like Mastodon, Textures, The Ocean, Gojira, Lamb of God, Cynic and some others.
Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?
Brain: It's no metal at all, but I wanted to started a band by the moment I heard Millencolin.
Bruno: Slipknot, for sure.
Danilo: I haven’t started any bands yet, but I grew up listening to my brother’s favorite bands, like Sepultura, Dream Theater, Metallica and Pantera. It really made me curious about how drummers sounded and I remember that at a certain point my main goal was to be able to play the full “Roots” album.
What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …
Brain: I made a warm-up session for guitar that I do everyday and before every show. It takes about one hour and a half and in the end I feel ready to play anything.
Danilo: I try to warm-up my feet and hands for at least half an hour before a concert. Stretching exercises are very important to avoid pain, too.
What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?
Danilo: The recording process with Adair Daufembach. He is such an experienced professional and it was a dream come true to be able to work with him, we’ve learned a lot and made an awesome album.
If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Brain: Millencolin for the good old days and Parkway Drive because this guys seems to have a really good time while touring .
Danilo: Surely Gojira or Lamb of God. They have a lot of energy, sound great and definitely know what to do on stage.
