Aleko is an American Singer-Songwriter from southern New Jersey whose soothing instrumentation and modulated singing style connects with listeners on a personal level. There have been many turning points in his life that influenced his writing – heartbreak, love, joy, even despair – but Aleko finds a way to express himself through playing music like no other. Aleko is currently recording his first EP, which is set to release in the fall of 2015.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

My name is Aleko and I am the primary member of the band.

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Aleko? How long has the band been around?

I was involved with another local south jersey band by the name of Isn’t It Always?. They have been around for quite some time but I joined in recent years.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Well my full name is Alexandros Doukopoulos so to keep things short and sweet I have decided to name the project Aleko, which is what I have gone by my entire life.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

I write everything, from the lyrics to the music. I try to pull from past experiences as every band does but try to put my own twist on doing so. I think only time will tell if the writing will change.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

City and Colour, This Wild Life, Ed Sheeran, and probably Hozier.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

No not really, I have been playing music for about 12 years now and have played various types of shows. I have realized that this is what I wanted to do for a long time now.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

I usually do some vocal warmups and just remember to relax.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

Since this is a brand new project, it is too soon to say. I have been more than happy with the responses I have been getting so far and can’t wait for everyone to hear the EP that I have worked hard on writing.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I haven’t really thought about this surprisingly enough, I think touring with Walk the Moon would be awesome. I have been listening to them a lot lately.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I just want to take this time to thank everyone who has checked out the music so far and to those who have been really supportive. Everything has been awesome so far and I can’t wait for the future.
