Unsigned Spotlight: ÆGES

In ÆGES (pronounced “ages”), ambitious rock n’ roll soundscapes and melodies the size of mountains are the electrifying result of four men from diverse musical backgrounds united by their shared love of loud guitars, big drums and catchy songs.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Kemble Walters - vocals, guitar

Tony Baumeister - bass, bgv

Dylan’s Howard - drums

Trevor Howard - guitar, bgv

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to ÆGES? How long has the band been around?

Current and/or Former bands:

Kemble - the rise (drummer), juliette & the licks (guitar), The New Regime (bass)

Tony - {16}, Cuthroats 9 (bass)

Dylan - Dorothy, unwritten law, Bowowow (drums)

Trevor - the lungs (guitar vocals), dead posey (guitar)

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

Never changed the name but we changed the A to Æ. We just wanted something simple and memorable. We hope we achieved that - ÆGES

Who writes your songs?

Kemble writes the songs, then we all get together and figure out what works as a unit. on our next album tony has a heavy ripper that we’ve been playing live that we’re stoked to get out there.

What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

The main topics battle some sort of “relationship” situation. Relationships with a friend, a partner, a substance etc. Basically just everyday life stuff.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

Depends on who you ask, we get inspired by a TON of stuff. Tears for Fears, Vanishing Life, Pantera, Mutoid Man, Black Sabbath, Joywave, Torche, KenMode, INXS, Quicksand, ... and on and on. We love music.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

I grew up on hardcore and metal as a kid. I LOVED Pantera, Metallica, Snapcase etc but there was one band that hit me harder than any of em and it was Quicksand, specifically their album SLIP. Once I heard that album, everything changed.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

We don’t really have any crazy routines. Dylan does some warm up rudiments, and the rest of us just like to hang, laugh, have a supper or two, and do a few vocal warmups, whatever gets the vibe right.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

The fact that we’re still here and pushing forward is a highlight to me. Each show we play gets us amped, big or small. We’ve had the honor and pleasure of opening/touring with Chevelle, Coheed & Cambria, TOOL, FLOOR etc and all their crowds were different and special in their own way. The highlight right now is that we’re still here ready to rip more faces.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

There’s a ton, but here’s a good list:

Torche, Quicksand, AIC, QOTSA, Chevelle (again and again), Mutoid Man, Failure, I mean this list is a mile long so let’s just say anyband that wants us out and enjoys the riff, a good hang, and loves the road as much as we do.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
