Track by Track: World Gone Cold's Self Titled EP

World Gone Cold are delivering massive hard rock anthems exploding into a mixture of heavy groove and melodic hooks. Their new EP was released today and we asked vocalist Ryland Raus to walk us through each track.

Apology

Apology is a song that is very raw and passionate. It talks about a relationship from multiple standpoints as well as multiple stages of said relationship. It highlights how a relationship is always evolving with high and low points. As new relationships form and evolve over time there are so many factors that contribute to the success or failure of it.

It starts with that nervous feeling of really getting emotionally invested with someone or something and then deciding you are in it to win it. All of a sudden doubt enters your mind and the situation turns dark and envy starts to eat away at your mind.

Then you find yourself stuck in what seems to be an endless cycle of unhealthy mental struggle within the relationship. You want to break this cycle but this burning pain inside you becomes almost like an addiction. The relationship then comes to an end begrudgingly. When the dust settles and there has been enough space and time to heal, then a real and honest conversation takes place. Both parties now have the opportunity for an apology.

Opposites Attract

This song is about loving something so much and having to set it free. With the hope that in the end, it will come back to you. It’s about all those little flashbacks and memories that you have stored deep in your mind and how they persistently dwell inside of you. You dream of what once was. You can feel it, envision it and wish it were still your reality but all you can do is wait.

You remember the two very different sides of the story. One of bright light and happiness and the other dark and filled with uncertainty. With heartbroken melodies and aggressive pleas for reason, this song challenges you to try and understand how opposites attract.

Attention

Attention is an in-your-face horror story. It’s basically about if you caught one of the victims on the wrong day. Picture being a mass murderer but you stumble across what seems to be your next victim only to find out that this person has absolutely lost it.

The grind of daily life, disappointment, and rejection has brought this person to a point of no return. In the end, the table turns and this mass murder comes to meet his match by a normal person who has just had it with daily life and puts an end to your reign of terror.

Burn

Burn baby burn. This song pays homage to the times of the Salem witch trials. Random accusations leading to chaotic burnings of oftentimes normal people. Irrational, irresponsible and downright evil. This track is brutal. The bridge section of this song is meant to depict the actual burning ritual. It’d dark, haunting, and devious just as those times were.

Left to Save

Left to save was actually inspired by the true life story of the Donner party. If you are not familiar look it up. Dealing with being trapped with others in the wild with the sole objective being survival. This track dives deep into the mental struggle of trying to survive. After you have survived you face a magnitude of criticism after details of your hardship has been revealed. With the weight of these judgments looming you come to the conclusion that you would have been better off perishing with the others.

Reality

It’s about a breakup that has you so messed up that you struggle to exist in a normal manner. You question everything. Things you should perceive as a positive you take as a negative. Things you should perceive as negative you take as worse than just negative. Without your better half, you wander the earth shattered and alone not being able to function whatsoever. You never imagined what a great impact a single person could have on your life. The reality was that you took them for granted.

Again

A repetition of snarky, selfish, and childlike behavior within a relationship. A never-ending chess match of manipulating heartstrings. Back-and-forth drama pulling others in as the relationship continues to spiral. Break up. Get back together. What will happen next? Break up? Get back together? You get sucked in and can’t look away. This song tells the tale of a train wreck relationship and the back-and-forth struggle of coming to grips with its demise.
