Track by Track: Life Awaits - Fluorescent
Blending intense, resonating breakdowns, atmospheric arrangements and soaring melodic injections, Life Awaits have found their footing and established themselves as one of the most exciting metal bands nationwide, playing to crowds of 400+ in their homeland. Their new album Fluorescent was released on November 29th and we asked the band to tell us about each track. Check out their commentary on the album below.
1. Fluorescent
This is the title track of the album. “Fluorescent” is a metaphor of life as most of us are born and die under the hospital fluorescent lights, and we spend our lives searching and wandering under the city lights. It’s actually a cyberpunk inspired album - “High tech, low life”. It really describes the current generation of the human society. We are consumed by consumerism. We measure success with numbers, and we spend lots of time on the internet, but we ignore everything that’s happening around us. And this track itself is sort of an outro of our previous album and an intro of this album, leading everything into the fluorescent world.
2. Digging in the sands
This track shows the disappointment and the anger towards the world we are living in right now. Everyone is chasing after something, digging their gold mines, and the meaning of life is sometimes ignored. To me, that lifestyle is like digging your own grave in the sands where you will find nothing in the end.
3. Blind Belief
This song is about the feeling of every time you try to give up on something, there’s always a silver lining. Nothing bigger than that ever happens, but it keeps giving you hope. It’s sometimes actually very painful.
4. Captivated
It’s about how I want to live my life and refuse to take the mainstream definition of “SUCCESS”. “All that you want is all that I dread.”
5. Disconnect
This is probably the most angry song we’ve ever written. We just wanted to express all the angry feelings that we had in the past few years into this one song. To the haters, the posers, and people who can only talk.
6. Undiscovered Frequencies
This track serves as an interlude in this album. Undiscovered Frequencies imply a side of me that never showed. It’s a dedication to leading my own way and pursuing my passions.
7. Everlast
Similar to Blind Belief, Everlast is also about that silver lining you see when you are on the edge of desperation. But this song is for our band. It’s about how we sacrifice a lot of things in life just trying to make this band to work.
8. Heart of Fates
In this song, I question how I would take it if I meet failure and let myself down in the end. I think it’s a feeling that a lot of people can relate to.
9. Ink
This is a song for my daughter. I was trying to sing her to sleep the other day, and we were lying on the bed facing towards each other. Just about the minute when I thought she was asleep, she opened her eyes and stared into mine. It was the most innocent and purest thing I have ever seen. My heart melted. And I wrote this song right after she fell asleep. Her name is 墨(mo) which literally means “Ink”.
10. Better Now
This is exit after all the heart-wrenching moments.
