Lido Beach's self-titled EP comes out tomorrow and vocalist Scott Waldman is here to break down each track.
“Era One”
It’s no coincidence that track one of “The Lido Beach EP” is “Era One,” as the song first and foremost provides a sad backdrop from a combination of personal unfortunate experiences in 2024. Said situations are compounded in droves by an unfortunate cycle that repeats itself to oblivion. The nursery rhyme delivery is the only way of coping through the pain and tears.
“Ten Things I Hate About Me”
This song and the EP closer “Empty” were written over twenty years ago and finally came to light. While lines like “I’ve got hair in all the wrong places” may sound goofy at first listen, the meaning behind said lyrics and the rest of them is that everyone on earth has something that they’re insecure about but these imperfections are what make us the individuals that we are. Plus, the guitars are funky as hell, just like you!
“I Never Pulled Your Trigger”
It’s interesting that the full band electric and distorted guitar version of “I Never Pulled Your Trigger” is more polished than its raw acoustic counterpart that was released earlier this year as a prequel to these five songs. “Trigger” is the first song I’ve written since my son was born in 2019 and was the inspiration for the EP. Like “Era One,” it’s a sad listen throughout but it consists of a bridge that brings me more pride than any other I’ve written. Wall. Of. Sound.
“I Just Want The Best For You, I Just Want The Best”
Wages of grief often include anger and “I Just Want The Best For You, I Just Want The Best” is just that in a nutshell… and more. It’s also the last of three songs on this EP inspired by events from 2024, and works as a critique over a Nirvana meets Cake backdrop. If you listen, you can’t avoid the pain, but you’ll likely want more.
“Empty”
This EP closer is a somber and sweet acoustic number that sounds like a lyrical explanation of the effects of the previous song, but it was written over twenty years prior. Some things never change and some things say the same. What to do? What to say?”
