Track By Track: In Her Own Words - Bad Weather

Bad Weather is a song that really means a lot to me. Where I grew up, a nice day was hard to come by, whether it be snow storms and ice cold temps in the winter or rainy bummer days in the summer, it always seemed as if I could never get away from this awful weather that was affecting my mood in the worst of ways. The "bad weather" symbolizes my mood while writing the song. I remember when I wrote the line "bad weather follows me like a stray." I was on the plane from my home in Upstate New York to Los Angeles and I was looking at the weather report. It was snowing when I left and it was supposed to rain the whole time I was in LA. And I was like "wow. Bad weather is following me." I wrote it down in my notebook and built off of it the next day at practice.

Silver Lights and Bittersweet are two songs that kind of go hand in hand. They're both about a relationship I had that had turned into a long distance relationship.

Bittersweet is about the transition from living down the street from each other to living in separate time zones, and how distance can tear people apart until they've turned into completely different people without realizing it before it's too late.

Silver Lights is more about the aftermath of it all, and feeling like we could've done something to prevent this disaster from happening. It reflects on the whole "moving on" process you force yourself to go through after something like this happens, but also shows how hard it is to do something like that because of the memories that you can't seem to erase from your mind.

Plain View is a song that's meant to be short, sweet and punchy. It's an angsty song that's supposed to jump out at you. I've always been a small kind of shrimpy guy in stature and it used to reflect in my personality as well. But there comes a time when you just have to tell yourself you're sick of being stepped on and pushed around by everyone. It gets old real fast and something has to be done about it. I'm hoping this song will motivate people who were like me and are sick of being belittled, whether it's by a bully at school or a shitty boss at your job, it's time to take a stand.
