Track by Track: Her Leather Jacket - "The House That Chaos Built"

Her Leather Jacket have just released their new EP “The House That Chaos Built“ and the band are here to break down each track. Check it out below!

Chase

The first track to this EP kicks off our new journey as a band. Aaron Gillespie specifically wrote this song for us after conversations of our personal experiences with some of the bullshit we’ve been through. Having Aaron on our team for this EP has been really influential for us as a band and for developing our sound.

Ever Been feat. Aaron Gillespie

This song is our first dive into the deep end of writing. It hits similar tones to “Chase,” but finally expresses them in our words and allows us the space to tap into a harder energy. It’s a song that’s just our personal anthem being tired of people taking credit for the work you put in. We knew immediately we had to get Aaron to feature on this and he was 100% down.

Cloud 9

“Cloud 9” was a song that had nine lives. We played with multiple versions of this song and ultimately came up with a version that felt very HLJ. With Aaron producing and as a co-writer on the song, we were able to create the sound we wanted to for this.

Cut Me Up

So it’s a love song, but it hits. It stands out among the rest of the tracks, lyrically and melodically, and it rips. We also got to bring in our wives when we did content for this song too, so that was fun.

Famous

“Famous” got deep when we were writing it. The song is something a lot of us as musicians go through. It’s the strive to get to where you dream of being in this insane world of the “music business." This was one of those therapeutic writes, for sure.

Nirvana & Cigarettes

This song is just fun, nostalgic and that energy definitely comes out in the track. When we first heard the song, the demo was pop acoustic and because of that we really got to experiment with how we wanted it to sound in the end.
